This could be good...I was thinking of heading up there on Thursday just for a bit of a squiz...it's half term, y'see and was wondering what was up there.

There's Mary King's Close, which is that underground street that sounds interesting.

My lass works in a school in Newcastle.

Holidays must be different to Durham as they seem to be off this week.

I've been all over the world, but never been to Edinburgh.

Yeah, Stan...some places were off last week, some this.

We had the Ofsted call on Monday and they were in Tuesday so this week we can all enjoy the holiday that wee bit more. Just fancied Edinburgh as somewhere close-ish I could go and have a mooch around.

    Places to visit:
Walk up Royal Mile and visit the Castle
Arthur´s Seat if you want a walk
    Prince´s Street for your shopping
Food and pubs allover the place but Rose Street worth a look. Heard that The Witchery (Royal Mile?) is a top restaurant but never been.
Worth a look around New Town behind Prince´s street
Leith is supposed to be great for food and drinks but haven´t been for ages.

    Famous pubs:
Deacon Brodie´s, Jolly Judge, Ensign Ewart (Royal Mile)
Grey Friars Bobby (George IV Bridge)

I was at the University there but it was 25 years ago!

Try some stovies as well as haggis! (I had an uncle who used to pour whisky on his haggis!)

I lived mostly in the old town (southern part of the city) but the castle, northwards is better for visitors. Even back then you could drink 24 hours a day if you knew where to go.

It´s a great city and you can get from the centre to the countryside in 20 minutes.

Not one for architecture, but I tell you what , one beautiful City.

Found a pub called the 'Jingling Geordie' just along from the hotel, well be rude not to.

And I got stopped by a bloke who saw my b&w scarf, asked if I was a murfa????

Not being too sure what he was on about I asked him what he meant. He pointed to my scarf, a murfa he repeated, turned out he was asking if i was a fellow St Mirren supporter as they play in black and white also. He was actually asking if I was a Murphy - some sort of nickname for St. Mirren supporters. I told him I'm Newcastle , and he just beamed and told me what a great Club we are.

At least I think that's what he said.
