Didn´t most evening games used to kick off at 7:30 in years gone by? Seems that 7:45 is now the norm. I wonder why?

It'll be TV based. Programs tend to start on the hour or half-hour.
So program starts at 7.30 allows for some pre-chat and then game soon after.
That would be my guess.

it was 8 oclock KO last night !
just as well
bloody traffic - an hour to get home from work instead of 20 minutes
didn't get into town until after 7pm and I was very lucky with buses
