    Remember mom doing this and warming our shirts up in the morning.No central heating in those days.

    Oh yes! Just one thing though....she's not doing it right. The paper (Birmingham Eveving Mail) has to catch fire for it to be truly accurate.

    Vividly remember my mum jumping on the paper to put it out in the hearth!

    I’m almost back there....my latest home has a wood burner.

    Back in the 70’s in Yorkshire at my nans the clothes used to “steam” in the morning on the clothes horse in front of the fire as mum tried to warm them through before we got dressed.

    Houses were bloody cold before central heating.

    I remember my dad putting central heating in our house and all the floor boards being up whilst he was doing it in 1968.

    51 years later and it’s still working like a charm and only on its second boiler,the old boy could turn his hand to anything!
