While appreciating guitar speed merchants such as Alvin Lee etc I much prefer someone who plays with feeling and goes for tone such as Jeff Beck. On saying that I would give my right nut to be able to play like the speed merchants.
Went to my nieces daughters ist birthday party yesterday. Got talking to her father in law, found out he played guitar. He said come down tomorrow for a jam on his new amp. Tried to get out of it because i'd never jammed with anyone.
Went down today, he's got a man cave set up with drums and this big valve amp head and speaker stack.
He asked to bring my USA strat and telecaster and bring your amp, I said I've only got a Vox 5w practice amp.
Anyway he started to play his Zack Wylde Les Paul, it was like being hit by a train how loud it was. 100 mile an hour rifs and power chords. Not being critical, we all like different types of music.
We ended playing the Blues and me showing him some different chord voicings. He's been playing for over 30 years. Never had anyone judge my playing, but he said I played well. so from going in feeling apprehesive to feeling I am making progress and he's going to look at different genres of music. It's too easy to get in a rut.

Hi, he's a good rock guitarist been playing over 30 years. But when i was showing him some BB King licks, he could play them but with no feeling or tone. It was just like someone playing scales.
Iv'e been listening to Tony Joe White lately, great underrated player and song writer, sadly he's no longer here.
Love Tony Joe White. Got a fair bit of his stuff. Don't know if you are interested or know of a young guy called Marcus King. Excellent guitarist with a voice that belies his age. He has already played with the Allman Bros along with Warren Haynes who is another fantastic guitarist.
Just checked him out , this is the music style i play i use my thumb and fingers rather than a pick.
Would love to go to this guitar shop
