    Harper is staying!

At least we’ll get a fee when he clears off.

Obviously not the finished article yet but this is still good news in my book.

Nice to finally see one of the promising kids stick with us once they get on the fringe of the first team.

I just hope he now knuckles down and really works on his game. If he can improve as a player and get the crowd on his side then I don‘t think anybody will begrudge him the big move if it were to come along.

More generally, something and god knows what, has to be done about the whole way youngsters are handled. I have just read the mind boggling statistic (to me at least) that this coming season Chelsea will be sending 40 players out on loan.

This is disgraceful, something the FA should do something about, but they won't because it's one of the big clubs

I don’t know if you know this but we ourselves have our own “Loan Arranger” ( John Terry’s ) brother who deals with all the players we are are loaning out!

    The system is farcical.

In my opinion a proper system needs putting in place to protect clubs with an academy system.

Maybe something like an ongoing 10% fee due on ALL future transfer deals to include the whole package so that value can’t be hidden in signing on fees and wages.

The only way I’d allow the ongoing 10% to be overridden is if a substantial fee was paid up front so for example if you’re poaching a Premier League youth player the payment is £10m and if a youngster lets his contract run down having rejected an improved offer from his club then the ongoing 10% automatically kicks in.

Agreed, there's a well known chant to their supporters: "Where were you when you were s**t?" and that sums them up before the Russian mafia took over
