    FAO Pacman

    PAC,

I could be wrong but I think it was you that I had the message exchange about Aberdeen amateur fitba from long ago and I said that the legendary Joe McGonnigle was involved with the brilliantly names Auchnagatt Barons. You said nah. Spoke to my brother last night, who is still involved with BSFC and he said that the BS boys were playing the Barons on Saturday. I mentioned Joe and he also said no and that Joe was with Watertown Thistle.

He also said that BSFC are playing on Monday as well - against the Barons. Both games are league fixtures!

Senior and Junior were involved with Woodside in years gone by. Did you mishear the name Watertown Thistle as I don't see them in a league

The leagues are f@cked up ,two division 1s and 2s, North and East as always. But Lads Club and Postal Aberdeen Lads Club are in the same Division meaning a derby, same goes for University Colts and University Strollers, and Glendale and Glendale Youth yet my old boys Ellon Thistle are in a different division from Ellon Amateurs

Fit happened to Sportmans. My dad was telling me they are gone, kaput, folded. One of the best teams in the area

Im glad the Auchanagat Barons kept the name after the pub shut because it is an ace name

I scored my one and only goal in amateur football against Ellon Thistle (deflected shot but I'm still claiming it). I was a poor man's Andy Considine (slow as fcuk central defender and prone to many a mistake)

Were you more often than not deployed at LB?

He did say they were called Woodside now but I think they were known as Watertown Thistle back in the 80's when I was playing.

After a bad foul by one of our players, Joe shouted "that's disgraceful. I professional doing that to a fellow professional", to which one of our lads responded in a polite way, "this is amateur fitba, ya daft ****"

LB in the dressing room as the old joke goes. Nah I was a right footed version of our Andy so did have the occasional spell at RB but unless I was up against a 45-year old winger I was invariably skinned the entire match. I was better hidden at CB!!
