Has it ever failed before?
Jesus christ that was shocking and var didn't do anything either.
Has it ever failed before?
Maybe they thought that the ball had to be 2 metres over the goal line!
According to Hawkeye not in 9000 games somehow all 7 cameras were obscured by the goalkeeper, the linesman on that side of the pitch saw nothing and amazingly VAR didn't intervene either, even if 1 part of technology doesn't work the goal should of been given by another a total shambles really.
I can accept the fact that in this case goal technology failed, as in fairness it has been excellent up to this point. What I can't accept is that whoever was in charge of VAR did not intervene and inform the referee that it was an obvious goal. This could have huge implecations come the end of the season in deciding relegation.
A player can be retrospectively banned for committing an offense after a game......
These points should be awarded to United if technology is to be used correctly. Move on.
Or go back to the traditional way of refereeing a match with the human using her/ his eyes.......
Call me thick but I had never looked up the technology behind this and for some crazy reason I thought the cameras were part of the uprights and crossbar.
Now I've read up on it, the 7 cameras are mounted on the structure of the stadium and PREDICT where the ball is based on its flight from various angles. So it sounds like its a guessing system.
It would be nice to know where the 7 cameras are mounted at Villa Park so we can believe that all 7 cameras couldn't track the ball, though in reality it should only need 2 perhaps 3 to have tracked the ball.
I don't think we'll ever know but do know that the referees shouldn't trust the technology anymore.
I read a report that inferred that the ref’s watch reacts to sensors which were blocked by players on the goal line. Indeed one did seem to stand there for an inordinate time. The conspiracy theory suggesting it was deliberate!
