Brentford v Barnsley Match Day Thread

Team selection tonight is of course anyone's guess , trying to predict Struber's selections and formations is nigh on impossible .

Something close to the starting lineup against Leeds would be my best estimate but who knows with Gerhard .

As I said in the other thread we have to be in the game and not lose it in the first twenty five minutes , another Stoke away debacle is most definitely not needed tonight .

I suspect Brentford are going to come out from the start and try to put us away early doors and create some pressure on WBA .

If Brentford are two or three nil up and it's goalless at The Hawthorns at half time it turns the pressure dial up considerably for The Baggies .

To have any sort of chance tonight we have to be tight defensively for that first half hour of the game , its imperative that we don't fall behind during this period .

We need luck , lots of it and some heroes tonight .

Enjoy it guys , we could easily have been relegated months ago .

The WBA-v- QPR game is almost as important as ours. Should WBA be comfortably winning at heyf time the Brentford players will fall flat and ,as Animal sez, if WBA are struggling early on Brentford could give us an arseoylin. My predictions--

    Brentford 2 Barnsley 2
    Cardiff 2 Hull 0
    Leeds 1 Charlton 1
    Luton 2 Blackburn 1
    WBA 3 QPR 2
    Wigan 0 Fulham 0

Players regarded as heroes but are relegated. Dog fills his booits.

In the home game against Brentford under Daniel Stendel we put the high press on Brentford from the beginning .

Woodrow put us a goal up and Brentford couldn't live with it in the first half hour and with better finishing we should have been further ahead .

However that tactic couldn't last the whole game and once we were getting jaded Brentford took control of the game and in all honesty battered us .

The way I see it is to keep it tight the first half and look to get in at half time level as a minimum .

Second half around 50 minutes get that high press going and see if we can get ourselves in front , similar to how we went about it at Leeds at the beginning of the second half .

That is how I'd be approaching the game , there's quite a few ducks got to fall in to line here I'll concede but that high press and when it's introduced is the key to us winning the game in my humble opinion .

Remember that all the pressure is on Brentford which can play a big part. They have a certain style and panache there's no doubt about it. We know that we simply have to win. Let's not sit back and allow them to dictate play, let's be physical and get in their faces, hound them and let the b@s tards know that they're in a game and that we're here to fight for our lives. If we try and sit back it'll be a long night because they can pass it around you for fun and we'll be beaten quite easily.

I don't know what kind of night we're in for, owt could happen. In all honesty I expect that we'll be a league 1 club come 10pm tonight and that winning this game as well as expecting favors elsewhere was probably a bridge too far. We shall see.

Whatever happens I would like to say well done to the players, you've given it your all and nobody can ask for any more. You should be proud of your efforts and resilience. After 16 games we had 9 points on the board and were 15 games wi art a win. To come back from that and take it to the last day of the season shows amazing mental strength and maturity considering you're all still young men. Many youngsters would've given up the ghost a long time ago but you kept going, kept strong and kept believing. I hope you all finish the job tonight boys, good luck.

Today could be the last day in the Championship for us for many a year and hard times ahead for a once great club.

On the other hand it could be one of the most successful days in Barnsley FC history and the launch of a fantastic era under Dog's ownership.

    Nowt at stake really.

Sit back and watch it roll out.
