    £20m

If the rumours are true that we are only looking to spend £20 million in the transfer window, then surely it seems that we have only gone up to balance the books , which I can understand. But personally I would like more than one season in the prem. Trouble is, we haven’t a lot of equity on the pitch to help raise funds. I think it will be a struggle next season but even more so without decent investment and not breaking the bank.

I think the loan market is the way to go......give players who have a decent talent a chance to play......instead of a lucrative contract. I think we did ok for loans and this year's transfer market will be a bit silly really...with the pay back some clubs will have to make for not fulfilling the TV contract.......
We are Boing Boing for a reason....spend thrift....

Fulham and Villa have proven no certainty if you do splash the cash.

So many examples of teamwork and team morale being really important. I would argue that it is how we go about it - not just looking for a 0-0 draw that will be more important than the amount of money we spend. Sheff U a good example this year.

Having said all that history shows clubs outside of the top 7 don’t get too many years in the PL and take it in turns to get relegated. You can’t get recruitment right every year and that is what ultimately catches the relegated teams out.

This is not a rumour but a days old opinion of a journalist who said we'd be spending over £20m, I post the article from the telegraph on another wba forum.

    It is just lazy journalism.

Since Dowling has said we will spend the same as sheff utd rather than the s hit fest that was at vile and the nothing at Norwich. So it should be around £40m, which according to numerous football agents who appear on talksport will get us more than in terms of value than sheff utd got last year, they got ripped off paying £22m for McBurnire and £10 for Mousett imo.

I also don't think Lai is that dumb that he will take all the cash now, as it will mean he will have nothing again next season if we go down.

Also recall that in our last season in the Prem at the start of the season we were all salivating at the best squad Albion had in the Prem... we had Threads going back on forth on what the best team would be given the options......and look what happened then. Spending wisely rather than extravagantly is the key for a club like the Albion.

Oh for an Astle, Kaye, Osborne or Clark from the lower divisions.
