Two bright young stars released - Thought we would be building for next season with the likes of the two guided by the two old wise pro's - WTF

Surprised about TC but RB seems to be seriously crocked with his back problems so not surprised by that one, although disappointed as I thought we was decent when we saw him.

Booty might be one that we sign at a later stage if he gets fit or once his back issue gets sorted, makes sense to not keep paying him while he's out indefinitely though.

I don't really have any complaints with who we're trying to keep and who we've let go, pleased to see Rawlinson and Slocombe are already signed up and hopefully we can convince Lacey to stay as I'd be amazed if he couldn't get offers elsewhere.

We could've kept Crawford but he's sat on the bench without managing to really make an impact in the first team under 3 different managers in a few years, probably be one that turns out okay but we're not really in a position to hang around much longer waiting for fringe players to develop.

There absolutely no point in comparing Doyle and Crawford too by the way, they both clearly bring vastly different pro's and cons to the side including their experience, you can't think of it like only being able to keep one of them and we've gone for Doyle imo. Look what happened when we let Smith and Edwards leave, whilst Smith wasn't doing much in the first team his presence and experience was missed in the dressing room according to most of the players that were here with him. We don't know what Doyle's playing time will be or how much money he's on but having him in the dressing room is absolutely a positive thing.

I agree with all of this man, Doyle has to be a positive influence in the dressing room, Crawford going is quite sad as I liked the look of him when he played, Booty had something about him too but injuries could end the chaps career early unfortunately... Not sure on the Wilson one, ok he never really got a run but he looked pretty handy when he did get on and had pace to burn also... My biggest worry is losing Lacey... that would be a total disaster imo.

I completely agree with all of this. Look what happened after the league two Nolan playoff season when the likes of Smith, Edwards and Ameobi left. It all fell apart as they were key figures in the dressing room. The likes of Doyle in the dressing room is invaluable.

With the likes of Crawford and Booty we may also have our eye on better players through our new recruitment process? Booty did miss a lot of games last season with injury.

With Rose he may have other options on the table? He’s previously played for Mansfield and Grimsby in the local area. At 26 he may want one last shot in the football league while he’s in his prime?

We have confirmed our retained list following the conclusion of our 2019-20 Vanarama National League season.

Ten players remain under contract for the forthcoming campaign, while seven others have been offered the opportunity to extend their stay at Meadow Lane.

Sadly, however, five players have been released following the expiration of their contracts and our manager Neal Ardley has praised the contributions they have made towards the club’s resurgence.

“This is always the toughest day in a manager’s calendar, but it’s especially difficult this year as we are saying goodbye to great lads who have given their absolute all to the cause,” said Ardley.

“The relationship I have with these boys goes beyond that of a typical manager and player. They have all bought into mine and the club’s philosophy and helped take us to a play-off final and an FA Trophy semi, achievements we could only have dreamed of at this stage last year.

“Unfortunately football is a cruel sport and disappointing news is par for the course in any player’s career. All I can do is publicly thank each of them for their efforts and wish them all the very best for the future.”

    Under contract

    Tiernan Brooks

    Enzio Boldewijn

    Damien McCrory

    Jim O’Brien

    Connell Rawlinson

    Callum Roberts

    Sam Slocombe

    Wes Thomas

    Ben Turner

    Kyle Wootton

Out of contract, offered new deal

    Richard Brindley

    Kristian Dennis

    Michael Doyle

    Dion Kelly-Evans

    Alex Lacey

    Joe McDonnell

    Sam Osborne

    Out of contract, released

    Zoumana Bakayogo

    Regan Booty

    Tom Crawford

    Mitch Rose

    Scott Wilson

One or two odd decisions on the face of it. I know Rose has come under fire but he has started pretty much every game and is also vice captain so to see him released straight off is strange (I imagine he will sign for a new club within the next few days).

Booty, a shame but is he ever going to be fit? The stats show not!

Crawford....I haven’t seen enough of him to make judgment to be honest but I bet there’ll be some upset folk on here!

Some on the retained list raised my eyebrows too but I’ll see what others say first!
