    Big Ed.

Is this it 59, is this the moment the revival begins, is Big Ed the one, can he drag the Lib Dems back from total obscurity and irrelevance to being that insignificant, minor party that they always used to be ? Should you perhaps be preparing for government even ?

He's got a helluva job Sinkov.

I voted for Layla because the last thing the country needs is another middle aged, middle class, white, Southern bloke to choose from.

Don't get me wrong, I like Ed and I wish him well, but he has a hard task to be heard in the media.

A lot depends on coming up with new, relevant and realistic policies that the people will support.

Surely you have got this wrong 59_60. Sir Ed is a Nottinghamshire lad from Mansfield, definitely not a southerner, whereas Layla was born in London, lived in various places throughout the world and attended private schools etc., etc.

I suppose that all it boils down to in the end is who can promise the most to those gullible enough to believe them.

Come on BT, this is just the way things really are as Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn correctly portrayed some 40 years ago!
Think about it logically, MPs are elected, therefore, they come and go, sometimes very quickly, and they are replaced by other elected MPs. However, the people who work in the various departments do not change very often and can be considered to be in 'jobs for life' --something which is uncommon these days. So guess who is running the country --as is correctly shown in the above drawing.
You really should take a step back from the political side and consider the practical side.
Remember that there are over 170 of these people earn more than £150,000 per annum and that is more than the PM earns and there are many more who are earning more than MPs earn.

So, the clever people are working in the Civil Service whilst the failed actors apply to become MPs so that they can pursue a life on the world's stage, even if only for a short time, something which they are denying to the proper actors who can't even get onto a stage in the West End or the provinces and don't get me started about musicians who are certainly not living in a Land of Hope and Glory as far as they are concerned!

Phew 59, quite a few prejudices on show there mon ami. What's wrong with the middle classes, the vast majority are decent, intelligent, hard working citizens and have as much right to be MPs as anyone else, why should they be discriminated against ? Ageism and racism as well, what does it matter how old anyone is, as long as they're physically able and compos mentis, surely no one should be debarred from high office, or any office, on account of their age ? And you hold the colour of his skin against him, that is so sad, I thought we had gone a long way towards eradicating that dangerous, knuckle dragging nonsense from our society, but it seems not.

Whatever happened to those dreams of a colour-blind society, was it really just a dream ? As WB Yeats said, 'Tread softly because you tread on my dreams', but there you go, clumping all over them in your hob nail boots. Ah well.

But.....Southerners, I'll give you that one, even if Ed isn't one, they are, mostly, tw@ts.

    Haha!

What I meant that all the leaders look like they have been poured into the same mould.

    I am white.
I used to be middle aged.
I am just below middle class.
And, coming from Rawtenstall, I consider Mansfield as south.

If you looked at them on a platform, Starmer, Boris and Davey would look very similar, perhaps Starmer and Davey would have better hair dos. Shirts, ties and dark suits.
OK for the Tories and Labour, but the Lib Dems need to offer something radically different, or what's the point? Bumbling along on 6% in the polls means we need to offer a very distinct difference. And, although we may say it's not important (and it really isn't) we need to come across in the media as looking different. Perhaps he may consider wearing a dress? Scuba diving gear? A spacemans outfit? Just another middle aged, middle class, white southerner in shirt, tie and a dark suit is not what is required.

He is what you have got though 59_60, never mind he may come good.
As for coming from Mansfield being the south to you, imagine how far you are down south as far as I am concerned

You tried something radically different 59, you advocated overturning the result of the biggest democratic vote this country has ever held. That was radically different, but it just led to a collapse of your vote, as I said it would.
And what on earth is wrong with suit, shirt and tie now, although for some the tie seems to be surplus to requirement, what's wrong with looking serious and respectable, appearances do matter, besides you tried the beards and sandals, that didn't get you very far either.
