EFL clubs could disappear in 5/6 weeks- Leyton Orient Chairman

Is he over stating the facts or is this total reality? In essence is this the football death knell most fans were dreading?

    From the BBC website:-

Some EFL clubs will "disappear within five to six weeks" unless they get financial support, says Nigel Travis, chairman of League Two Leyton Orient.

He also said 'Project Big Picture' - a plan by Liverpool and Manchester United to reform the English football pyramid - was a "great proposal".The idea includes reducing the Premier League to 18 clubs and scrapping the EFL Cup.
In return, the EFL would get 25% of all future TV deals plus a £250m bail-out.

"If clubs don't get something soon you will see clubs disappear, I would predict, within 5-6 weeks," Travis told BBC Radio 5 Live. But he added: "One thing I need to quash is, this isn't about the pandemic, this is about a crisis in football that goes back many years.

"Before the pandemic, 75% of clubs were losing money - that can't continue. The pandemic has, if you like, exacerbated the problem and we need to get it fixed.

"I know you are talking about 'Project Big Picture' - this is a great proposal as far as we are concerned. It is certainly very promising and clubs need it. "Something like this has to go through."

The government has agreed a funding package with clubs in the National League, which allowed their season to begin last week behind closed doors, but there has been no support for EFL clubs, with Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden suggesting the Premier League could support lower-league sides.

We have to be grateful of the fact we have a 'sensible' Chairman holding the reins at our club.

Yes Brin we have a sensible Chairman holding the reins.

However football is the complete body, the arms the lega, the heart etc

TS looks after one small part of that, let's say a hand, it might be a well looked after manicured hand but its attached to a diseased body where major organs are failing

Whilst I do accept that some clubs may well be teetering on the brink (that's been the case for quite a while now), I think the key point from the Orient chairman's quotes are where he professes his support for Project Big Picture. No doubt his doomsday ticking clock of 5 to 6 weeks is intended to pressure other clubs into his way of thinking.

Yes you're probably right with that

Perhaps he thinks that payout money with bells attached is better than no money at all,

Should a big wedge of cash appear, then how would it be allocated?

    By league position?

By size of debt (penalising prudent clubs like ours)

or just the same amount to each club no matter current league or financial position?

75% of clubs were loosing money before the pandemic. If these clubs get the extra cash you could gtd 75% of them will spend it all to try to climb the ladder. Hows about this for a idea. Why don't clubs spend the income they get and not a penny more. Even better spend 80% of the income and save 20% for a rainy day

It will be spread unfairly as usual.

Sumat like10 million to league 2. 75 million to league 1 and the rest to championship.
I wonder what the total dept is in the 3 leagues and how much short the 250m will be to wipe the slates

For me the likes of Weds, Derby and Reading would get feck all considering how they've all over spent and seem to have got away with it once again. If you put the table up for who's been the most prudent I'd guess we are way out on top. Does that mean % wise we'd get the most?
I think the rewards should be based on that.

Why don't the EFL look to use and force implementation of the way TS runs his club? Within spending parameters, youth development instead of bringing in overseas players etc. Keep the game British and not send the cash abroad.
