    Peter Allis

    Sadly passed away today age 89 , I always loved to hear his commentary's , knowledgeable man , great sense of humour , and could tell some fascinating stories from the world of golf ,
    a great man , a very good golfer , and genuinely nice person , R I P Peter Allis , God Bless

    Finest golfing commentator of them all bar none in my opinion .

    Like Johnners and Blowers for cricket, Ted Lowe for snooker, Bill McClaren for rugby union, Eddie Waring rugby league et al he was the voice of golf.

    Grew up watching golf on the BBC. Peter Alliss and Alex Hay doing the commentary. Great to listen to. Alex Hay passed on some time ago.

    Who could forget the classic Alliss commentary when poor old Jean Van De Velde was stuck in the burn at Carnoustie. "Would somebody please give him a large brandy and mop him down. To attempt to hit the ball out of there is pure madness"
