Aston Villa v Burnley Match Preview

Well an interesting few days to say the least. Sunday’s win at Arsenal was our first League victory over the Gunners since September 1974 when Peter Noble netted in a 1-0 away win. If we can beat the Villains on Thursday we would only have to go back to May 2015 for our last win against them. Danny Ings netting in a 1-0 win at Villa Park. There is a little pattern of 1-0 away wins emerging here and another to build on that excellent result at the Emirates would be most welcome. Form over the last 5 games slightly favours the Clarets as we have picked up 8 points while Villa have garnered 6. Both teams are beginning to get players back from injury. Heaton is close for Villa but Martinez who was excellent against Wolves will probably keep his place. Douglas Luiz and Matty Cash are both suspended so El Mohamady may very well come in.Trezeguet and Wesley are out but Barkley may be risked. For Burnley Bardsley and Stephens will come back into the reckoning after having a run out with the Under 23’s against Reading. We may well find ourselves back in the bottom 3 before our trip to Villa Park but at least there are some reasons for optimism going into this fixture. COYC!

Yes a key game for both teams and Villa could go joint 3rd if they win their two outstanding games so it won’t be easy. It’s tight at the too with 10 teams within 5 points of the lead.

    Re competition
WBA making a good fist of it at Emirates so far. Fulham on the mend means we need something.

    Read that
Kortney Hause, Tom Heaton and Frederic Guilbert are all fit and back in contention. Will Tom be on the bench?

Our tails are up, I expect a 2-1 win.

Given that Tom is at Villa, I've been thinking of players that have played for both teams. Tony Morley we sold to Villa in 1979 and we had ex-Villa player Gordon Cowans for a short while. Gary Cahill (loan) also springs to mind. There must be many others. Incidentally, naming your ground "Villa Park" shows a total lack of imagination.
