O/T - Are there ANY good Broadband providers

We have BT Broadband and it's down 4 or 5 times every day.

Flashing orange light on the hub.

    Shockingly bad service.

Affecting my work, wife's work and daughter's schoolwork, not to mention all the Internet TV services at night.

You send a text message but that is just for the current issue, you try to contact them but that's virtually impossible.

You never get a refund for the non service either.

Are there any good ISPs out there or are they all as bad as each other ?

MayI suggest you give Plusnet a try. I have been with them for years and their service is excellent. They are based in Yorkshire, where their call centre is located.
They are a wholly owned subsidiary of BT, but are completely autonomous.

BT are great - they phone me quite regularly to say someone has hacked my internet and so they are going to cut me off. Next time they ring I'll ask them about your problems

I was with BT since the mid 90’s and dial up, eventually gave up with them about 3 years ago as service was dreadful and constantly down. Put everything on Sky and now that is sh1t as well. Often find myself tethering off my phones 4g as it’s more reliable. Have Plusnet at work and so far it has been very reliable.

Most Broadband and TV suppliers have their faults as do Mobile phone networks

If the problems are ongoing then it may well be something in your house, extension cables, not connected to master socket, old bell phone connection, poor filter.

What is the score with your neighbours who are using telephone broadband? It really almost doesn't matter which ISP - if it is over the phone/copper system then you'll all be getting similar service. If there is a regular fault on your line BT Openreach normally pick it up automatically. Have you logged the fault using the on-line service through your BT account? And carried out all the checks?

When my broadband line went down over a period (a digger had cut some cables near the exchange) I got an automatic £8/day credit and BT Openreach kept me informed. But they can't do anything unless you are prepared to pay if the problem is on your property, ie your side of the master socket. That's where I'd start.

I've been using Three's 'HomeFi' for almost 4 years and have never had any issues. It's basically mobile 4g but with a mains powered router. Simply insert SIM card, plug it in and Bob's your uncle. Probably not as fast as cable but I get about 90 Mbps on a good day and that's more than fast enough for me. Cheap too with no line rental to pay and you can take it with you when you go away or move house easily.

Obviously you need to have a decent 4g Three signal where you plan to use it. There's a 5g version too if you're lucky enough to have that superfast witchcraft in your area,

You can check your postcode for coverage and see the prices and deals here although it's not totally accurate - for example it says there's no signal where I live and I'm typing this to you on it now at 93 Mbps

This is what I use. Must have been with 3 for several years now and never had a problem.
