First things first Nudger 50 points!
Then see where we get to, its about player development after that in preparation for the following season.
It’s was a poor game.
We didn’t play well.
Although we picked up 2nd half - we looked tired throughout.
Brittain and Styles had a relatively quiet game.
Mowatts distribution was off par.
We did look better when Morris came on - the ball started to stick more when passed forward.
IMO - Morris needs to start and play centre of the front 3.
Mad Dog Mads was probably my MOTM.
But main point is - most supporters will be thinking it was 2 points dropped (against a team that took ££££Zillions to assemble) so it’s an indication of how far we’ve come.
Let’s hope next game we can start to play like we know we can play.

It was a poor game I felt Barnsley played into there hands to be honest.....that’s why we went long for much of the game instead of playing our own game. Yes the energy and desire wasn’t there. I felt Brittain and Styles looked a bit lost. Mowat tried to do too much at both end of the pitch instead of doing this thing. Morris did ok but like you said he needs to start so he can batter the other teams back line and make the space for others to run into. Mads was the best player by a mile. Nothing got passed him. But he need to learn that he can take a touch and pick his head up and pick a pass.
Forest where utter rubbish and if we had played our game we could have shamed them all over to be honest. It was two points dropped for me but we should be beating teams down that end of the table. Playing the top teams and getting a point or 3 is bonus if you take into account of how poor we where at the start of the season. As the writing was on the wall for me. But we turned things round but it’s still work in progress.
This thing about 50 points - it’s interesting.
IMO - it’s something that has been laid down by the directors.
Big Val mentions the 50 points target regularly so clearly he’s been told that’s his target.
Again - only my opinion but I feel this is the directors plan:
19/20 survive in the Championship.
20/21 get established in the Championship.
21/22 push for a play off place.
As things stand this season - as far as the directors are concerned - we are slightly ahead of schedule - as with a couple of more players I.e. tall strong strikers at the beginning of the season - we could have easily been pushing for the top 6 this season.
But as things stand it’s looking like - beginning of 21/22 season we will have the manager in place for a full season - and importantly a FULL QUOTA of players ready to push for the top 6.
It’s a great time to be a Barnsley fan.
Let’s hope everything stays on track.
If we keep doing the things we are going right then happy days but what we can’t keep doing is stripping the team of its assets and having to do the same thing each season. We need to keep the group together and build on it. Ok you
Can say Alex M will move on but he will find it hard as so many have when they leave. Your a big fish in a small pond rather a small fish in a big pond. Not only that he want be Guaranteed to start every week. But let’s get to that magical 50 points and see where we go from there. The higher up the table you finish the better player should and will come. If you are down the bottom end of the table every year it’s hard to get the better players to come.
We are where we are because we had a good run of fixtures against bottom seven clubs in December and ground out 2-1 wins---Birmingham, Wycombe, Wednesday, Rotherham and mid table Huddersfield and Preston. The thundering hooves of clubs can be heard coming up behind us. We have played a game more than most which they are playing this midweek. For example a win for Derby midweek and at Grove Street on Setdi and they are only two points behind us.
All this complacency and talk of playing out the season could well bite Barnsley on the arse. Brentford, Blackburn, Bristol City, Stoke and Millwall to come in February.
The fat lady is not singing yet abart this season being a success.
That's fair enough and I tend to agree with that but do you see Wycombe , Rotherham or Wendy finishing above us ?
Nudger apart bless him , the vast majority of us have had our feet very much on the ground even when 3 points off the play offs , most of us never thought for one minute that was achievable .
I still maintain 55 points is a good season irrespective of where that leaves us in the table .
Next season I'm looking for 60 btw .
A tek thi point SB. The bottom sides ev picked up, they always do this time of year but we have more than enough in the tank imo. Having watched plenty of championship football I can honestly say that I feel we are a better side than Wycombe, Rotherham, Wednesday, Coventry, Birmingham, Forest and QPR. Our final league position should reflect that. If indeed that is the case then its progress. The thundering hooves aren't exactly ringing in our ears, I suspect that the bottom teams will struggle to keep up their recent good form. We are capable of getting 60 points this season in my opinion. That would mean getting another 24 points from the last 19 games.
I honestly don’t think we are far off top 6.
If we had this manager during the close season and the players we have now at the start of the season - possibly with another 1 or 2 striker options - then I think we would be around the top 6 now.
And if you’ve watched how we have progressed against the top teams through the season then it’s clear to see.
None of the top teams have battered us - in fact they have struggled against us - only daft mistakes by us have been the difference.
If Mowatt leaves at the end of the season - and I think he will - then his position is going to be a difficult one to fill.
Does the club go for another experienced player or do we promote from within?
That decision could cost points.
I agree there are probably three worse teams than us and we won't go down.
Just pointing out that a bottom six finish rather than top six is a possibility.
Conway will sell some of the current crop of decent players this summer ready to bring in the next batch to develop and Ismael will depart citing lack of ambition at the club.
