Being strongly linked to become England's under 21s Coach
Favourite for the Donny Rovers job too apparently .
Why Rovers don't go and get Stendel is a bloody mystery to me .
Knows league one , knows south yorkshire and out of work .
Thuz nowt to forgive him for Rascal. This club and the previous owner fekked him over by selling the class of 2016 and replacing em with shyte. Despite that the blowk did a good job darn here under difficult circumstances. He'd have been crazy to turn darn Leeds job. He's a Tarn lad and a Tarn fan but he's also a professional footballer and coach by trade. That's what some of our fans fail to acknowledge sometimes.
Agree with all of that - except the Leeds job bit.
There was an interview with him at the start of the lockdown last year where he explained the reasons for going to Leeds.
He repeated in that interview what he had previously told me when I bumped into him at a cafe.
Ganaye was manoeuvring Hecky into a corner.
I can only assume this was the start of the new owners implementing their recruitment policy where the head coach has a smaller role.
Hecky told me (and I hope I remember this right) that Swansea, Notts Forest and Sunderland twice had come in for him and he’d turned them down.
But as things moved on at Barnsley he believed his time there was untenable - so he told Ganaye that the next club that comes in for him he was going.
Ganaye then asked him to sign a contract.
Leeds then came a knocking.
And as Hecky had signed a contract Ganaye was able to get £500k compensation from Leeds.
Easy money.
I knew something had gone on and during that week I called BBC Radio Sheffield Football Heaven on 4 separate days to see if they had been able to find anything out.
All what they would say is that Hecky had gone to a BIGGER and BETTER club.
They were clearly revelling in Barnsley’s demise.
But it’s an indication of the poor quality of journalism at BBC Radio Sheffield.
We know now that Hecky didn’t jump - he was pushed out.
And I’ll still maintain that the football I witnessed at the beginning of the 16/17 season was the most exciting I’ve ever seen at the WELL.
We were looking brilliant until Patrick sold players in January 2017.
But - under his circumstances I can’t blame Patrick for doing that.
