Fantastic news. Deserves this too. Has been one of our most consistent and committed players last two years. Hopefully will be back in the central position as that's his best place in defence.

Connell Rawlinson has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The Welsh defender has established himself as a hugely popular figure at Meadow Lane thanks to his heart-on-the-sleeve performances in the centre of defence.

And supporters can now look forward to seeing plenty more of the 29-year-old after he accepted the opportunity to prolong his stay in the East Midlands.

“I’m really pleased,” said head coach Ian Burchnall. “Connell’s been a big part of our defensive unit for a while now.

“He’s a good leader – very professional - and a great character to have about.

“We’ve used him on the right of a back three a lot but I think he can stake his claim in the middle because he’s commanding in the air and a committed defender. He’s comfortable on the ball, too, so he can play a variety of roles at the back.

“He’s another player that wants to show commitment to the club by staying and helping us get out of this division.”

Rawlinson will be giving his thoughts on his new deal later today.

Does it really matter who got there first? Let's celebrate another excellent signing that definitely strengthens our defence.

Delighted and needed. Replaces Ellis at the heart of a back 3 as the Head Coach openly states. No need to push him out to one side of the 3 where he isn't half the player and looks uncomfortable.

Fully committed since signing for Notts and a consistently good performer.
