Anyone been to a “Hundred “ game this summer ?

Being a cricket lover, and someone who has watched quite a few of these games on tv, I just wondered if any Clarets has actually attended one of these exciting games.
The new concept of one day cricket , with its rule variations, has definitely made it more exciting , especially when you are guaranteed a result at the end of the evening. The crowds have been good, plenty of families in the arena’s, and it looks like it’s here to stay.
Next summer , if I am able to get tickets, I can see me going to a game or two ,to sample it for myself. Even my wife has taken an interest in the way the evenings unfold , so it must be appealing !!Definitely one for the not too distant future.

The nearest ground to me in this fiasco is Headingley, which is 112 miles away, and i have not been and I shall not be going.
The best thing about the game is the improvement in fielding and it seems to appeal to those with a very low concentration span because it is all over quickly.
Another step forward in the demise of the red ball cricket game which is what people seem to want and I am just an old bugger so will just get on with it. I have seen the great cricketers and played iwth one or two so I can put up with a lot of rubbish.
    Enjoy it malwayne.

Super sub, I trust you are not including me in the “low concentration span” sector !! I agree with what you say, but it seems to me that people just want to be entertained at grounds like Headingley. The nearest cricket ground to me is just over a mile from my home. ( Sophia Gardens) , but due to the Welsh Governments restrictions, the crowds have been reduced, and tickets have been snapped up very quickly. I also used to play cricket for a long time, but unlike you, it was only a couple of times a week in the local midweek league. I can quite happily sit there for a good few hours watching the “red ball “ game, and growing up ,I used to do that very often both here and 40 miles down the M4 at St.Helens( when Glamorgan had a good team)My first experience of one day cricket was watching Lancashire etc in the Gillette Cup,when with players like Lloyd and Faroukh Engineer, contributed to great games on tv. I don’t suppose cricket as we know it will ever be the same again, the way we used to know it. Whether that’s good or bad, i don’t know.Time will tell, if the big money investment will point it in the right or wrong direction.

My fear is that this sort of tinkering with a once great game will find its way into football.

Soon we will have a seven-a-side floodlit EPL league with two 25 minute halves with a pie and a pint thrown in. It will be mandatory that each team must have two females on the pitch for the duration of the game.

I suppose I was spoilt. Going after school to watch Richards, Greenidge, Marshall and Roberts playing for Hampshire. Whatever the Hundred is it is not the cricket I love but I like Supersub am just another old stick in the mud.

malwayne ---my remark about "low concentration span" was a general remark. Society in general seems to suffer from this, particularly amongst quite a number of the younger generation who just want to 'add water' and make everything instant.
You enjoy the modern attempts to 'improve' the game's popularity. sadly I am of a totally opposite opinion. That's life.

BT --if you really know what I am thinking then please tell me because "I came, I saw, I forgot what I was doing, retraced my steps and got distracted on my way back! I have no idea what's going on and now I want a pee!"
