    Leeds Utd,schizophrenia & Leeds Mad

Was recently shown above picture from May 1982.
Yep it's just a pic but for me I dot see it as 'just a pic' as my brain see's so much more.

Six members of my family are in-amongst those standing travelling Leeds fans alongside many loyal friends going back to schooldays of 1960/70s I was told.

Of course there's a story to tell of that day & many other days from said fans present - some who later got to better places in life & some who did not but they where all present that day and most are still travelling to games today by hook, crook, mutual respect with endearing life friendships requiring all to look after one another no mater what life throws at you and that goes to friends extended families.

Many of them now write books, some write weekly newspaper/media columns, some use forums & some just go to the games BUT none of them would stand by and take the personal flack & witnessed others having to either and ignore it.

My schizophrenia does alter some perspective to my views as I look at things slightly differently which to some may be difficult to understand - which I accept happens.
But I tell it as I think it and often in details that come across wrongly to some but it's the way I've trained my mind as often its battling thinking two things at once.

So for me I'll take the positives not the negatives from that national iconic photo that labelled ALL Leeds fans being hooligans, argumentative vile-animal scum as I know MOST are not and likewise on here.

Living with schizophrenia successfully without medication I have to battle and avoid certain negative emotional situations and I have to keep daily reminding myself that or to be told by others and in fairness I cope quite well.On balance my Mum expects me to come back fighting my corner which I try to do for her no matter what the situation.

As they say at my local-port - 'To reach a port we must sail, sometimes against the wind and sometimes against it.But we must not drift or lie at anchor'
Such is my life, that's a great saying.

Like others I'm sure, I am often bemused at the length and "extra" content of some of your responses. But it's clearly a release for you and a therapy of sorts. So continue to fire away! Just remember though...people still aren't going to agree with your opinion all the time no matter what! 😉

I'm guessing that this is at least in part in response to the kerfuffle about posts on another thread which were or weren't intended to be hurtful/offensive.

I'm not schizophrenic (at least we don't think so!), so can't comment from a position of knowledge, but if taking things literally is what caused the original response, then surely the "heat and light" that was generated could be reduced if not eradicated by taking equally what was said afterwards, regarding the intended innocent nature of comments, and accepting that the possibility of misinterpretation (which we are ALL capable of, with or without mental health issues) is always a risk?

I'm with Oz on the "keep posting" and on the advice regarding reactions!

For your information my main schizophrenia symptom is diagnosed as circumstantial thinking or circumstantial speech which often include excessive irrelevant details in my speaking or writing. I maintain my original train of thought but provide a lot of unnecessary details before circling back to their main point.

My secondary symptom is I see cartoon faces visually that appear in my vision line.
I've learnt to control that situation quite well - when unwell the faces talk to me and obviously this is diagnosed as a psychotic episode and has been life threatening.

I don't think I am guilty alone of writing long thread comments or alone in writing criticisms on here either as we're all guilty of that in fairness.

As I quoted - To reach a port we must sail, sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it.But we must not drift or lie at anchor'

To keep with the watery metaphors: ultimately, we sail this ship alone, but I'm glad your sump pump seems to be working, if that makes sense?

Better to float than sink and always know when it's best to seek a safe harbour.

I'll shut up now, but you get my drift...

    Yep I get your drift.

Luckily my fantastic medical research team read my comments posted weekly and do advise accordingly.

Early days for me but I'm learning to interact better in differing situations which will help me not become withdrawn so much from society in general.

Hopefully a lot will be learned via this 6 month project by myself & Psychiatric consultants.

I thought it only fair to explain to everyone & the experts will intervene for me if need be and of course Mum & Dad who check in daily.

No problem with me - as I'm sure you've noticed, I seldom jump in on anything (which perhaps I should do occasionally?), but you've often posted interesting things on here that many of us wouldn't have been aware of otherwise and, especially if it helps you too, feel free to clatter away on your keyboard as much as you want to.

Now, time to find a free and easy way to watch this stupid international nonsense...

If its Poland v England I really wouldn't go to any trouble, fallen asleep twice and we're by 25 minutes in, borefest is not the word.

No need to explain at all Totty but glad you shared your experiences and challenges.

I can’t begin to think how proud of you your mum and dad must be in the way you have faced up to your challenges.

More importantly just think you make interesting posts , which often make me chuckle - I quite like detail too but that is probably down to my job.
