wonderful, I think dinner tickets were 5p a day.
I was at Maltby, some kids wanted sweets .
so I would buy their tickets cheaper.
as there was 2 sittings I was in there.
There was 6 people at a table, dinner ladies would Bring a trolley round, and put tins of meat veg gravy round.
Then same with the puds.
Awesome .
our lass hated school snap.

I always thought ours was 8 to a table, but thinking about it, 6 seems right. We had to go & collect the tins from the dinnerladies (mexborough)
Puds always seemed to be a steamed sponge of some sort.
Peas went everywhere

Always loved school dinners at Monkwood Infants and Junior schools. The dislikes of boiled cabbage or mashed swede (love it now though) could always be offset with the occasional things that were worth waiting for like chips (maybe once a fortnight), chocolate sponge pudding with chocolate custard and plain sponge pudding with pink custard.
When moving up to Mexborough Grammar in 1972 (by which time I think they were 25p/day) I was for a while swayed by the 'in crowd' who would prefer the local pie shop or Chinese restaurant but I soon realised that one pie was no match for a school dinner nor was a chicken chow mien worth two school dinners. We soon cottoned on that waiting until last, although it had some downsides (on chip days when they ran out) had a huge upside with respect to how much food you could get. I think that was the start of my 'sleepy afternoons'
