    Whitby.

My first visit there for about 46 years today.

What a lovely place, a great place for a day out.

My grandad was a National bus driver and during the summer he’d take the day trippers to Whitby, Bridlington, Scarborough and Filey.

As a lad we’d go as a family by car to these destinations and then me and my little brother used to jump of the coach to travel back with the pensioners in an evening.

Long summer evenings meandering back to Harrogate and singing the old songs with the old timers is a lovely memory.

Did you have fish and chips? Best I’ve ever had from the chippy on the quay.

Each to their own, but as a ‘local’ of 36 years happy to leave Whitby to the tourists.

Much prefer the likes of Runswick Bay, Staines and even Robin Hoods Bay or Saltburn. Don’t tell anyone else though as we want to keep them to ourselves.

Saltburn is nice but everyone with a dog in Harrogate goes there!

Is that where they come from? We walk in the area every Wednesday, usually from Marske car park and back, sometimes as far as Skinningrove and back. Many a time it feels as if we are the only ones without a blasted dog! Can’t stand them and don’t they know it, always jumping up and slobbering over either the missus or myself.

Trying to decide between Filey, Brid and Scarborough for later this week........any opinions, I know my mate Baggie Al loves Filey?

I'm hoping to visit relatives in Coxhoe near Durham later this week as well and was thinking of Saltburn but on images it looked like the village of the living dead?

Any other decent spots up that way with scenery and a decent cafe?

From Coxhoe, National Glass Centre definitely worth a visit if it fits in with your times.

Morning, there is a beach cafe at Hunmanby Gap. Plain food but a great view. You can then walk along the beach (if that's your thing) to Filey. We like Staithes too. park at the top of the village and walk down to the harbour, good food at the Cod and Lobster, good pub food at Captain Cooks pub at the top of the village. We have never been to Runswick Bay but have had it recommended several times so its on our list for next time.

If you have the time Go a little further north and go through the Tyne tunnel (£1.90 each way but worth it) and spend sometime at Tynemouth. We were there yesterday with the extended family and Friday on our own. Great restaurant on the beach called Riley’s Fish shack or for more family oriented, but still very good food, Crusoes. Deck chairs provided at both! Walk around to the Collingwood monument for a great view of the river Tyne and across from North Shields to South Shields as well.

Sorry just noticed typo on previous post, yes I meant Staithes, good spot.
