Paul Newton shortly before kick-off today :-
"Now during last Saturday's programme in the post-match coverage after the Oldham game a comment was made by our commentator that a stumbling block to Philip Day taking on Carlisle United is the money he's been asked to pay for the club.

Well BBC Radio Cumbria Sport can confirm that this claim is unfounded and we would like to apologise for broadcasting it.

We got it wrong, we're sorry and we're happy to put the record straight".

    Update from a correspondent:

Mark Elliott, Managing Editor, BBCRC :-

"Thanks for getting in touch. James is stepping back from his on air duties for a while, but BBC Radio Cumbria will continue to provide full coverage of Carlisle United games".

I think the commentary is better without JP, with good description of what is going on on the pitch supported by Lummy's rather than continuous views expressed by JP. However, if he as been silenced by some complaint from CUFC the reason should be made public.
