As we can't play Charlton on 8th January (Cup) and the Gills should have cleared their Covid cases by then, can the two clubs at least arrange to play that Saturday afternoon, to avoid a bigger backlog (and mid-winter Tuesday nights)?

That depends on how the pandemic shapes up. It will also be affected by the large number of EFL players who are refusing to be vaccinated. Obviously their time on social media is more important than the health and livelihoods of their colleagues.
