Utterly bizarre season, top six and a point off Europe but there's a massive managerial debate and we're relegation favourites for next season.
Glad we made it but the underlying feeling we're in deep trouble remains.
We're clearly not good bur relegation faourites for next season? Hardly. Can you see any of Dundee/St Johnstone/ St Mirren or Kilmarnock/Arbroath turning into top six contenders?
Slight exaggeration obviously but what is one win in 13 if not nailed on relegation form?
There's no question that Alexander has done a good job keeping us up in 2021 then getting into the top half but whether he's still the man to lead us forward is a different matter...and unless we pick up in the last five - less whether we win or lose but how we play the games - then the slump in season ticket sales will put the board in a tricky position regardless of how much they would prefer to continue as is.
Don't think we need to stretch justification for concerns considering how poor the team has played all 2022. Continue to play this way with the same results for a full season and every one of those teams don't need to be contending for the top six to be roughing it out at the bottom with GA in charge. Near complete overhaul needed and best to start chopping the management immediately now.
I suspect making the top six means there'll be no action till autumn so GA will definitely have a further chance to bring in players. And we're likely to freshen up the backroom staff as well.
Will that be the new impulse we need? I'm far from convinced as I don't think our problems this year have primarily been down to the players but GA's attitude and approach. I don't see that changing going into the new term regardless.
I’m struggling to recall when the team has had such relative success in terms of league position, but there has such unhappiness about the style of play amongst supporters. Tactics have to be down to the manager and the repeated lumping of balls from the back up to forwards who don’t collect and keep it is dreadful. There are occasions when we thread a few passing moves through midfield and we look fine, but invariably any passing breaks down as the players seem incapable of finding one of their teammates far too often. So, both the players and manager are at fault. Where they do seem to show a collective positive is in attitude - yesterday was another example of not giving up when going behind and it paid huge dividends when we scored the equaliser in the last minute of extra time. The importance of this was shown in a great photo (taken just after we scored) on the BBC Scottish Football website in the “Mayhem” match report on our game. Clearly it meant everything to our guys (huge smiles) contrasting with the despair shown by the Livi players (heads in hands).ju It’s a great photo and worth a look although I think they may have changed it by now- I did try and import it but I’m not very IT whizzy.
Indeed, whatever you think of the ability and tactics of the squad, the character we've shown this year while being rotten has been outstanding. I can hardly remember another run with as many comebacks.
