Classic song, but I never realised that David Gates wrote it about the loss of his dad until I checked out the YouTube comments. Makes it even more poignant.

Good catch there....I did not know the history of those words.....
Did Elton John's song "Daniel"....am I right in saying that was wrote about his dead older brother?

I only noticed that myself tonight tbh.

He’s 81 now is David Gates, all my 70’s favourites are either dead or really old now.

Although the lyrics talk about Daniel being an older brother, Bernie Taupin actually based it on an article he read about a Vietnam veteran who was struggling with his treatment as a hero on his return home.

Song For Guy was tribute song to a staff member at Rocket records, I think this might be confusing a few people......

Elton and Bernie hadn’t split up, really – they’d just been doing all of the drugs and had started working with other people. One way to get around this Taupin-free period was to release an instrumental. Written and recorded on the same day during a morbid phase where Elton imagined his own death, it was title-free until he heard about the death of a young messenger, Guy Burchett, who worked for Rocket

I noticed that R Dean Taylor died the other day, 82. 'There's a ghost in my house', remember that? These long forgotten songs from your youth are suddenly remembered when the artist passes.

I often listen to that great song Phil, I love this video of Fred Astaire set to Ghost In My House.

Easy to forget that he also sang that absolute classic, "Indiana Wants Me", another of my all time favourite songs on the link below.

I didn't realise until today that he also wrote Love Child for Diana Ross And The Supremes as he was a writer for Motown during the 60's.

Some of these people who faded from public view have got absolutely amazing life stories and history when you actually take the trouble to read up about them.

Indiana is such a fabulous 70's sound though, it just brings childhood flooding back to memory, I'm so grateful I grew up in that era rather than this sea of musical s h I t that's around now.
