From a quantum perspective nothing is ruled out. The laws regarding the speed of light are pretty convincing from a mathematical point of view.
However as with ship building in the past....the laws need only be discovered and understood.
Ships were always made out if wood for thousands of years until the law of displacement was understood. But before the law of displacement was understood.... science said it could not be done.
Not all scientists are forward thinking..
