    Playing with width

I like the fact that we play with width but do you think that we use too many players doing so?

For example. When Ogbene is going forward we often see a dental midfielder and a couple of defenders backing him up. It's the same on the left with Wiles often there doing one two's and trying to create a crossing opportunity for the forwards that by this time are marked.

Les Payne makes a good point about early crosses again and again and again.
We're not crossing the ball early enough or as early as before and were not giving Smith the chance to run on to a ball.

By all means play with width but get it in early.

In a word yes.and that’s why teams pack the middle and force us wide and then deal with any ball in that may come.by default mk dons did that and stumbled on it when they went down to 10 men and it actually worked and I think teams have copied that since.Charlton certainly did that last Saturdays it stifles us.

I'd like to see us spread out and use the width. The last home match the number of times our players have the ball out wide and there was 3 other players and 3 other defenders within 5 yards of them. Spread out and give them some space to do something with the ball. No wonder we give the ball away, when a player has the ball and has no room to do anything with it. It was like watching 5 year olds when everyone crowds around the ball.

Playing with real width is far too adventurous for our management team

Grist I think that we do play with width but like littlesquirt says we use too many players.

I said last week that I'd like to see us use a 433 system. I think it would provide width from the front men with the support of the full backs. Their sole objective should be to put early balls in.
The other midfielders should be busting a gut to get in the box. On the same point the wide forward players should be coming in at the back post.

Can you seriously see Ladapo busting a gut to get in the box?

Unless my eyes are really bad, I thought Portsmouth pitch was really wide.
Has said playing to close to each other, but main concern was the crossing
of the ball, 99% of Rotherham's crosses against Portsmouth were inside the
six yard box, a goalkeepers dream ball, why can't we get crosses into the
    penalty spot area.

Either our players aren’t as capable as we think they are or they just don’t practice crossing in training

You might have heard me at games 😂 it really is annoying and I think that’s one of reason I get ****ed off with management for not picking up on it
