    Speculation ref Clarke and Diangana?

Seems to be more speculation in the press over the above with Bruce now wanting to retain Clarke and rumours of Diangana possibly on his way out. Tbh, neither would surprise me. I guess getting Clarke will only happen if we can get the funds from somewhere and Diangana is one of the few of our lot that others might want and pay money for. Diangana obviously has skills but hasn't performed for us this season and has been far too lightweight. Just our luck that if we do shift him he will then start turning it on for his new club next season but right now we need the money, although surely our key target should be for a midfielder with some proven creativity.

Guess there will be considerably more speculation to come over the summer and most of it rubbish as journalists tend to put down their own ideas rather than what is actually happening (or not&#128580 just so they can have something to publish but would be nice if the club actually backed up all the recent rhetoric with some action. I suppose I can just about still be bothered to dream that this might happen...

It's got to happen if this club wants to get itself out of the malaise that it finds itself in!

And as usual for me the biggest culprits are for me the recruitment team and those who draw up the contracts.

The Clarke situation is a very difficult one. Yes he looks a decent Championship player and yes his loan contract expires at the end of May.

However, Ajayi, Bartley O’Shea and Bryan yes all 4 centre halves see their contracts expire at the end of June 2023. Should the club sell them now? Probably yes to all of them except O’Shea. Will anyone want them? Far from certain. Will they want to do a Johnstone and run down their contracts so they can negotiate one last deal in 2023? Very highly likely.

If we are likely to be left with all 4 do we need to prioritise Clarke, especially given the potential of our two young centre backs in the U23 team.

Not a defensive issue, but add into that 2023 list Livermore and Zahore also have contracts until 30.6.23 and can’t see anything but them running down their contracts.

Diangana has contract expiring 30.6.2025, along with Robinson, Furlong and Townsend, not a lot of potential sales their except Grady.

    Yes quite a mess!

Indeed. My ‘player of the season’
PS I noticed Clarkey won an independent player of the season award securing over 50% of the supporters’ votes.
    TGH secured ‘young player’
Mowatt secured ‘goal of the season’ (vs Cardiff)
