Saivet - Finally back in football

I know he's been long gone and didn't really set the world alight but he's back in football back with Pau, French 2nd division.

I also didn't realise he only played 8 times - that is shocking.

Ex-Newcastle United star Henri Saivet has finally found a new club after being released from the Magpies almost 12 months ago, signing for French side Pau FC in the second division.

Saivet's career started well in France with Bordeaux. At the age of 17 he signed his professional contract making him the youngest ever player in the club's history. Making 178 appearances and scoring 21 goals in his nine years at the club, he helped his side win the 2009 Ligue 1 title and the 2013 Coupe de France, in which he scored in the final beating Evian 3-2.

His football caught the eye of Newcastle United, who at the time were managed by Steve McClaren, and in the 2016 January transfer window the Magpies got their man for fee of £5million.

His time at Newcastle would see him make only eight appearances and score only one goal. He only made four appearances in the second half of the 2016 season after joining the club, before moving on loan to Saint-Etienne in August 2016.

Good on him. Didn't he score in that away win at West Ham?

Shame it didn't work out for him. Joined a basket-case of a club at precisely the wrong time.

And probably the manager MacMuffin wasn't much help either.

Aye, correct Tino, and they are rapidly tumbling down to MacMuffin's level.

    And long may it last.
