We won't be going back to vertical football .
Just read this on News Now (see below).
Its revealing as it shows the extent Paul Conway went off-script last season - not only dumping the spreadsheet recruitment system but also dumping the ‘Barnsley Way’ of playing.
Is there any wonder there was confusion amongst the players when Schopp then Asbaghi were instructed by Conway to change the playing tactics to a more possession style.
Very much looks like we will be reverting back to a more Ismael style of playing next season.
“What we have noticed is that when you first speak to some managers, they adapt answers based on what you want.” Khaled El-Ahmad told The Yorkshire Post.
“Essentially, the questionnaire they fill in prior to (applying) was for them to sit and reflect on their values and style of play.
“When I got a questionnaire, one candidate said: ‘I just want to play out from the back, I am possession-orientated’.
“You then quickly know that is not the right fit (for Barnsley), so you don’t bring it into the process.
We won't be going back to vertical football .
Jimmy Floyd has fallen foul of the process - could this be related to someone explaining to him he has to play a certain way - the Barnsley Way ?
No I don’t like the tippy tappy sideways crab style either.
During the Ismael season we saw patches of quick fire passing that was better on the eye than anything we saw during the following season.
IMO - it’s a matter of mixing it up.
Although successful, Ismael probably went a bit too far with vertical football - but Conway definitely went too far dictating that the style should be changed to possession football.
Physical strength is more relevant as a club drops down the leagues.
So now Barnsley are in a lower league - and with what Khaled has said - then I’m expecting the style of play to be similar to what we saw under Ismael.
Depends what players we have at the season starting as regards the style of play
