    Andy Goram....RIP.

    That was quick......RIP
Goram remains the only person to have played a first-class international match at cricket as well as a major international football match for Scotland.

As I mentioned previously I knew ANDY’s first wife Jacquie and although he was a nightmare womaniser she always stayed friends with him because he was a nice bloke.

I had a friend who was diagnosed with MND in the August and dead by early November so this doesn’t surprise me.

From initial symptoms up until his hideous, bed ridden, paralysed and unable to speak death took five months.

You don’t always get 50 odd years to sit and dribble like Stephen Hawking.

Not too sure why you are talking about Motor Neurone Disease, he died of cancer of the oesophagus.

    Yep......my mistake.

No doubt his long term alcoholism is the cause of the cancer, he’s been hammering it since his early 20’s.

You can’t attribute alcohol to the cause of his cancer Mick as there could be a number of reasons unknown to the public. A family member has recently died who was 100 and drank like a fish but he was happy for it. Guy who always ran up our road with his dog at 47 who didn’t drink or smoke and really fit dropped dead of a heart attack.

Everything in moderation excluding gambling and drugs which actually ruins lives.

Truth is we don't really know what our ancestors had disease wise as the information wasn't available back then as to what someone died of other then the blatantly obvious.
Your great great great grandparents could have had all sorts of genetic material passed on to modern humans and it skips a generation or two and decides to appear in your system today.
Life can seem strange at times.

He was also diagnosed with a mild form of schizophrenia in the nineties prompting the opposing fans to sing "Two Andy Gorams, theres only two Andy Gorams."

You always come up with this same analogy about the bloke who reached 100 whenever I mention alcohol.

It’s well known that too much alcohol is a contributor to certain cancers.

Goram didn’t like to drink in moderation, he’d drunk like a fish from a young age and had serious alcoholism.

Perhaps some people like alcohol Mick as many families in France and Spain love a glass of wine with dinner. Bit like many value universities and my kids wouldn’t be in top jobs without having been there.

That said - you never know I could in the future pop to my local and just drink earl grey tea with a bag of knitting 🧶

Each to their own. I would rather die like Goram at 58 having had a great life as opposed to living past 80 like a shell or worse in a care home.
