    Timo Werner

I've seen us linked with him alot in the last few days but really don't rate him. He's scored very few goals for Chelsea with world class players around him. What are your thoughts?

It must be glaringly obvious to Eddie that Wood isn't good enough

He'd be a huge, huge improvement on Wood.

But....that's not saying much and whatever he had that caught Chelsea's eye clearly hasn't translated to the Premier League. That's an excellent point about the players he had around him, too, and we certainly couldn't match that so it would be a no from me.

Plus, even if we only paid half his wages, that's amount to something like £135 grand a week.

We absolutely need someone...but not him.

Wood isn’t good enough but Werner isn’t the answer. He’s capable of some good build up play but isn’t a goal scorer - far from it.

I like the sound of this Benjamin Sesko but £50 to £60 million for a 19 year old is alot of money. Worth it if he grows with the club and becomes our No.9 for the next 10+ years though

I'm pretty sure we'll get a striker by the end of the window but no idea whatsoever who it will be

Literally take Werner in a heartbeat and I'm sorry lads but if you think otherwise you need to be giving your heads a bang together. Players like him should be the sort of players we are dying to sign not turn our noses up at because he hasn't kicked down doors at Chelsea. The lad is world class simple as that. People just look at goal stats for attacking players and write them off if they haven't scored a bucket load it's ridiculous. Werner is unbelievable on the ball and off it and he creates so many scoring opportunity's just by his movements, he is a clever guy he really is. And for his goalscoring at Chelsea yeah it hasn't been great but the amount of chances where he just doesn't seem to have lady luck on his side is unbelievable. That can all change in a heartbeat and nearly everyone of them chances could become goals for us who knows. Before Chelsea he bagged 78 goals in a 127 games for Leipzig and has scored 24 in 53 appearances for Germany so for those saying 'he isn't a goal scorer' I'd bet to differ. Not prolific by any means but he's a goal scorer. And for everyone saying I suppose he'd be an improvement on Wood come on guys he'd not only be that but he'd be a massive improvement on Wilson as well. He in my opinion is on a different level to either of our current strikers and I'd be well excited if we made a statement signing like him.

I would agree, forget about the past and his Chelsea stats, loan him for a season, if it doesn’t work out send him back. After watching Woods performance v Benfica ,it’s worrying now, we need a goal scorer, better still 2.

Prolific in the Bundesliga yes but he hasn't been world class for Chelsea, far from it, most weeks he can't get in the team.

I'd still take him over Wood any day and if we missed out on other targets

78 in 127 games is Shearer scoring rates in the Bundesliga. Prolific is the word! Brilliant intelligent player. Had delusional hopes that we might actually sign him before he went to Chelsea. I know, I know, what was I thinking under Ashley! What an idiot.

1 in 2 record for Germany = the definition of world class!

Werner would be an coup for us to sign and a real statement. Dunno where his head is at in terms of thinking about NUFC's project. However he has a point to prove, still young enough to make a long term sustainable difference to our development and really would be a marque signing that along with Botman, Tripz and Bruno would enhance our rep to entice that higher tier of player to our famous old club!

Asensio looks to be on the out at Real after Ancelotti's comments yesterday.

A front 3 of Maxi, Werner & Asensio with Wilson, Miggy and Fraser as competition is very exciting. A loan for Draxler with an option to buy would be absolutely insane business.

Happy to take Zapata too and the Arnaud Kalimuendo links have gone quiet recently however after Ekiteke arrived at PSG Arnaud isn't likely to get a look in.

    Fascinating times!

Once the team return from Portugal, the next phase of recruitment will ramp up.

It's clear after the Benfica friendly where we are weak, that is at the top of the team. With Ashworth being in Portugal, stood beside Howe and seeing first hand what is needed in the final 3rd of the pitch I expect that next week we will see more decisive progress on in coming targets.

    Very exciting times!

According to the Guardian Werner is on £275,000 a week, can't see us going anywhere near him if that's true. Isn't Bruno our highest earner at £85,000 a week? Juve interested in taking Werner on loan apparently, probably unsure about him too based on his Chelsea form

Our top earners are on £120,000 a week.

Werner will have to take a pay cut but I'm sure the board can offer goal bonuses and other benefits to make the package more attractive but we certainly won't get anywhere near is current salary, that is for sure.
