Have only recently been made aware of Jon Spurling's "Get it on-how the 70s rocked football" which I've downloaded on my kindle. Have only read about a quarter of it so far (so yet to get to coverage of our fabled 78/79 season) but can thoroughly recommend based on my reading so far.

Spurling has obviously done a ton of research with many interviews ( a lot of whom have since passed) and places the football in the context of the times with plenty of cultural/political references. The book surely can't fail to entertain anyone who went to games and avidly watched BBC/ITV coverage during the 70s. Yes, there was racism and thuggishness but also plenty of larger than life characters and non PC moments to enjoy in the decade when football entered the big time but before money ruined so much of the game. If you haven't read it or been aware of this check it out!
