On his hamstring injury.......need two strikers in now really...
Pedro and Goncalo Ramos?
That's the only good thing about it really. In the last few weeks, I haven't heard any cundit or anyone say the words "Callum Wilson" without the words "if they can keep him fit" close behind.
We can't and we need two strikers ASAP. Wood is not going to get into double figures (and I'm not talking minutes on the pitch per game) but he's now who we are looking at to lead the line. Wilson is a guy to bring off the bench at best because he scores great goals but can't string together a run of games anymore.
Aye - although now clubs know that Wilson may actually be injured it'll hike prices even more.
But as said, we all knew it so can't be surprised it's happened.
This is too important for us to fcuk around with low starting bids.
I often leave buying birthday presents too late so end up getting family far more expensive presents than I may otherwise have done just because I've run out of time. It's like a procrastination tax and I accept that I've just got to pay it. 🤪😁
That's where we're at. Our need for a new striker (well, two, tbh) is greater than our need to not overpay.
Howe will have made it clear to Ashworth, Eales, Staveley, Ghodoussi & the sheikh precisely where Wilson @ 30 yrs old with a history of hamstring and muscle injures.
I don't believe someone as detail driven as Howe, nor someone as focused and experienced as Ashoworth, nor the diligent and determined senior management team will be leaving anything to chance.
Yes the post covid window has been a challenge as teams are looking to heist as much cash of the wealthier clubs as possible for players but with Yasir Al-Rumayyan in Newcastle for an extended stay (I'm guessing for the remainder of the transfer window) the process of negotiation, money approvals from PIF will be streamlined.
£50m offer for Mads still on the table or next week they go all in for Paqueta for example. It's crunch time but it's still not over yet.
This young lad Pedro is gonna be brilliant, he was great against is last season.
The way we play, high energy we will force mistakes out of other teams as we did against City ( worldies!!! ) and get more goals from other players.
A 2,3 man attacking midfield behind the young energetic Pedro will score more than the striker.
Yes Wilson gets goals but look at Lampard's career he scored for fun at Chelsea. Yes they had class strikers too but they also had a game plan which suited their style. We are playing Howe's style and that means energy, power and goals from across the team.
We will evolve into a too club with an excellent all round No.9 in a few years but right now we need goals from everywhere.
An Attacking middle fielder who gets 10, our wingers need to find 6-8 goals each.
Set pieces, with our height in Botman, Burn, Jolinton, Wood (when he plays) etc we should be dominating teams in the air. All goals count dead balls headers are ugly but it doesn't matter.
I can't wait to see Burn v that midget Man U just spent £67m on at a corner haha
Free kicks Tripz will get 5-8 this season.
In short I trust the board know what thye are doing. Comple Sept 1st I'm sure we will all be satisfied with the transfer business.
Let's face it, deadline day isn't gonna be dominated by stories of a failed attempt to loan Hamza Choudry!
Keep the faith ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻

Naturally, they are working on bringing in a new striker as we speak - and have been for a long time, as we all know. To me, it's not a question of whether or not to pay handsomely for that striker, the owners will pay up for the right man.
Have you considered that it might still, in spite of everything, be hard to attract players from a more than decent shelf to Newcastle? Unless we want another Chris Wood, which we don't, then I don't think the type of players we really want to see here now are necessarily keen on choosing us above other offers they might receive.
