How important is the division you're in?

I can see two sides. While I hate us not being the oldest football league club in the world any more with a passion, I love the feeling of leaving Meadow Lane with three points in the bag. What's made me consider this question is a glance on LTLF, where many Forest fans seemed happy to lose but limit the damage at Man City, and concentrate on beating Bournemouth at the weekend. On balance I'd prefer to be pissed off at losing at Dorking (could happen) than be happy to lose at Man City (will happen).

I still get a buzz going to ML as much as I did as a league club. I really don't sit there and even think about us being NL. I want us to win every game, but if we don't then I look forward to the next game.

I used to have a ST but left Nottm in 1993 and distance together with work make it impossible to attend every game, but once in the blood, it's there for good!

Of course I want to see us back in the league. But to answer the thread question, no, it doesn't matter that much to me.

I found out very early on that I much preferred being a struggling team in the top 2 tiers to challenging for promotion in tier 3. In the top 2 levels you've always got the big fixtures, you get talked about at national level and that's what it's all about for me, supporting a club that's relevant.

Below tier 2 it's probably better to go up and down between 3 and 4 than be stuck in tier 3 for 10 seasons because there's not so much difference between them and tier 4 is fairly easy to get out of.

I think the satisfaction comes from the product, not necessarily the level. I dare say that I’ve enjoyed, for the most part, how we’ve gone about our business on and off the pitch far more these last three seasons than I had in the previous ten or so. This is also reflected in the crowds that we are getting….fans will always turn up if they see the players care and try and play attractive football.

We were in leagues one and two signing garbage over the hill players, stumbling from one disaster to the next but now we have (I know elite hates this next word) stability and clear vision on how the club is going to be from now on. I don’t know who said it first but the journey is more important (and exciting) than the destination. I would love to see Notts play in the top division one day but when you hit that glass ceiling how do you feel as a fan then?

When Nico Rosberg won the world championship in F1 he realised he didn’t have the desire to continue anymore. The journey really is more enjoyable than the destination….though I didn’t feel that way after losing to Grimsby in the playoffs!

It's Notts County, when I'm at the game I just don't care who we are playing, I get just as big a buzz out of beating Maidenhead or Solihull Moors as I did when we beat the likes of Man Utd, Arsenal, Tottenham etc

And I still don't know if I should be pleased or appalled by that.

But we are relevant. Relevant to those that go to games. Relevant to those who are employed by the club (not necessarily the playing side). We are relevant in the community. To me it makes no difference what level we are at. We will always be relevant to folk like you and I.
All that will change if and when we do go up through the leagues is we become a little bit more relevant to those who have distanced themselves from the club for their own reasons. Forest are actually a good example of all the above points as it’s only been recently that some fans have returned to watch them in numbers that they get.

That's my dilemma. While I hate us being at the level we're at, I celebrate a goal against Solihull as much a goal when we were at the top level.

I walked out happy on Monday because we'd won. If I ever walk out disappointed thinking "ok we won, but it was only against Solihull at level 5', then I'll know it's time to give up.

It depends on what you mean by 'recently'. They have had good attendances for the last 4 or 5 years (apart from Covid).

I couldn't really understand why we aren't relevant at L1 or below. I am really proud to support Notts, in fact, now when someone asks who I support, I am even more proud in a strange way now that we are in NL?

    Great Post
It is all about the journey and having a dream
Once the dream has come true, it would then seem difficult to match that

When you’re losing every week it’s no fun, no matter who you’re losing to. It’s been good the last few seasons turning up most weeks knowing we’re likely to win and also play some nice football.

I desperately want to get out of the NL though because under these owners I think we’d have a decent shot at getting out of League 2 and maybe even the one above. A real shame these lads didn’t turn up before we we were relegated.
