    Non-League Players

Watching the Cup games over the past few days, and whether they've upped their game for the cup games. Quite a few have shown tremendous skill playing against league clubs, Bracknell tonight have some good players.
Any club could pick up a few gems

I think a lot of it is to do with academy football. Hundreds of footballers are released each year who have had several years of intense training with many falling out of the football league. A fair few will continue to play alongside work at clubs like Bracknell etc.
It’s not like 20-30 years ago when non league players were mainly blokes who were reasonably fit with little about them and certainly very few had a ‘footballing education’.

Players fall into non-league for all sorts of reasons: bad luck, attitude, loss of form at crucial times, injuries, mentality, personal life… The Isthmian League club near me just picked up a player who was a regular in the England setup until U20s, was sold for £2M when he was 18 to a Bundesliga club, then promptly got sacked for not turning up to training & his career’s never recovered. You get these stories all the time.
