    Unbelievable!

I rarely go into my garage other than to get something from the freezer.

Late last night I went in to get a loaf out ready for the morning and with it being the dead of night it was quiet enough to hear a mouse break wind.

I heard a very low humming sound which I thought was the freezer but when I concentrated it was very obviously coming from my old Ford Capri which I store in there during winter.

The garage is a bit tight on space and it was only when I got close that I could see that there was a wire from the mains plug that had been put through the drivers side window.

The wire was attached to a fan heater placed on the drivers seat, this fan heater was red hot and pumping out some serious heat!

Both the drivers seat and passenger seat were in the reclined position.

    Some crafty b a s t a r d has been getting a warm cosy sleep in my f e c k I n car on cold winter nights.

That’s bad enough but they’ve been using my electric AND being stupid enough to leave the heater on! 😳

It’s a miracle that the whole lot including the garage hadn’t gone up in flames taking my house with it.

I’m to blame, I lost the side door key so the garage has been unlocked and because a mate had needed access to do stuff to the car I’d also left the car open as well.

But the sheer audacity to sleep in someone else’s car in their f e c k I n g garage whilst using their electricity AND locating a fan heater in a box and then just tossing the box.

The stupidity of leaving the heater on really gets me though, that was just plain irresponsible.

    The footnote to this.....

I’d noticed the wire plugged in weeks ago but presumed this was due to my mate the mechanic who’d been trickle charging the car battery, I reckon that fan heater has been on continuously for over three weeks since I was away in Cornwall........I’m scared to check my next electric bill!

I honestly had a Victor “I don’t believe it” Meldrew moment when the truth sunk in.

I’m sure it’ll give you a laugh, it almost rivals the day I got stitched up by buying a TV from dogdy callers only to find out it was full of breeze blocks once they’d sped off!

I laughed at myself in both cases.

    Eventually!

Anyone got any random stupidity that has involved them?

No mate.......the only bonus is that they didn’t have a s h I t in there.....probably did that in the garden!

Wife now scared to go out to the freezer so it’s costing a fortune to update our whole home security.

Ring cameras are pretty good Mick and relatively inexpensive, not an alarm as such but good to cover things like outbuildings as you will get an alert to your phone and it records movement. At least it wasn’t a burglar, probably just someone needing a warm place to kip.

Have you noticed that Al hasn't commented yet. He must still be out there searching for another warm place for the night!

From all you have stated in your post, you were very fortunate that you got back with everything as you left it. The outcome could have been very different. You must be extremely relieved.

Keep your cheap and tacky accessory suggestions to yourself. The last thing we need is Mick taking photos of his ring when he's got his grapes hanging out. Thank fk he can't post pictures..... perish the thought 😊 .

Here are some links to the companys that offer reasonbly priced security. Blink and Ring are owned by Amazon and will charge a small monthly fee in order to access the automatic recordings. Eufy do not charge any monthly fee but they will do if you want to store a lot of daily recordings.

Verisure and Simplisafe have a lot of bad reviews.
