Pele. Moved to end of life care. Report.

    Guardian.
The Brazilian football legend Pelé is receiving palliative care after chemotherapy treatment for colon cancer stopped having the expected results, it has been reported. Pelé, 82 has been in poor health recently.
    Doesn't look good this time.

    Sad news worlds greatest footballer.
Was lucky to see him play in a friendly for Santos v villa during the 3 day week the match was in doubt, but if memory serves me right they got a generator and used only 3 floodlights on.
There was well over 60,000 there and villa had a Scottish kid called Jim Brown who did his best to kick Pele off the pitch.
After one foul he lifted both arms turned round to all the stands, as if to say you have all paid to see me play and this kid has gone out to cripple me.
He didn't score that night, but there was one moment of magic he sold a villa player a dummy then with no back lift hit a shot from the halfway line which just clipped the crossbar.

My dad went to that match Lloyd.

The first great truly world footballing superstar.

Possibly Maradonna and Messi have had a bit more skill and overall talent but if you’re talking about the all time World icon then Pele stands on the same level as Muhammad Ali.

Impossible to separate those two I’d suggest?

Hi Mick, It was the only match I've been to when the whole crowd only had there eyes on one player, it was surreal.

I think Pele is # 1 in football.

The superb talent and goal scoring ability combined with excellent athleticism - 3 WC gold medals (made his debut aged 17 winning his first).

Lots of domestic records and trophies in a very good football country, and this was before ”all good non-European players had to play in Europe”.

And to that, not a cheating w**ker…

Exactly, Thomas, Pele was a great player without the cheating that typified Maradona, that to me makes him probably the greatest of all time. If you cheat, you are not great, there are no mitigating circumstances.

I was there and I remember some Vile **** shouting who needs Pele when we've got Andy Lockhead. He meant it as well. Knob.
