    Notts’ tactics

Really interesting thread here on Notts’ shape when we attack teams and the great work Luke Williams has done:

So much good content out there these days about tactics, which makes me realise how little I actually know about the game I’ve watched for nearly 50 years.

I know the feeling nw6 the analysis has evolved even more than the game has over my years of watching.

The tactical and scouting side of the game is now so accessible for us supporters, and it really widens your knowledge and understanding if you take the time to read.

Yes great to have had the way we play highlighted for any NL manager who hadn't worked out how we play

    Thanks for posting.
Is this the most sophisticated team and coach we've had since my avatar's coached team in 1982? Or ever?

Wilko was ahead of his time for English football, I think. Odd how he later came to be identified with a “route 1” style as he was anything but during his time with us.

Yeah, and then split the difference in a third way with his Leeds team - intense and physical but with great midfield play from McAlilster, Batty, Strachan and Speed. And still the last Englishman to win the league as manager!?

To rip up what you've done and build something completely different multiple times is the mark of a footballing savant IMO. There's no way he should be associated with just 'route one' and he's someone who doesn't get enough credit in general.

Back to the clips and analysis - it won't make us a clutch team that wins games through sheer force of will like Wrexham seem to be doing, but the hope is the strategies can become so ingrained that NL teams will have no answer on great Meadow Lane/Wembley pitches on sunny days in May.
