    Putin v the West

Anyone else watched any of this documentary by Norma Percy on bbc1? Explores the beginnings of Putin s war in Ukraine with interviews and footage with most of the key politicians and diplomats involved. Makes the reasons for the West's initial responses understandable but similarly paints a picture of Putin that very clearly shows him as someone who must be stopped. It will probably 're-enforce most people's existing views rather than challenge them but worth a watch and interesting to hear more directly from some of those more closely involved.

What came over to me was that every person who was interviewed, except a Russian, stated that he was basically a compulsive liar and just denied anything that he or Russia was accused of, no matter what the evidence.

All leaders lie to everyone all of the time.

It’s just a matter of which lies suit your own particular narrative that matter.

No doubting that all leaders lie and for a variety of reasons (though probably all around protecting their own interests) but there are still levels of differences. Some liars and lies are worse and bigger than others and I would suggest that Obama, as an example, has more integrity than Putin and that most would prefer Dodgy Dave as their country's premier to Putin.I

There are still degrees of corruption and evil and even taking into account the spin of Western media or any other claimed "mitigating" circumstances surely most would see Putin as the bad guy in the black hat, however off-white those worn by others might be.
