Nationalise the lot. People shouldn't make obscene profit out of what other people need to survive on.
Any profit made should be ploughed back into the company for the benefit of all.
What a disgrace with this story about debt collectors forcing their way into vulnerable people’s home and these people being forced into expensive pre payment meters.
Funny isn’t it, my wife is having a 14 month nightmare trying to get non paying tenants out of her dad’s house and the old boy has lost a total of £35k including legal fees.
The whole legal and court system has been a nightmare for her and yet big business like this can just smash their way into peoples homes in this way to fit a meter or collect a debt.
All this stuff is out of balance in this country, look after big business yet nobody gives a s h I t about a 93 year old man who is extremely vulnerable, requires £1000+ a week for his care and who’s cash runs out in a few months time.
At which point, the council will be able to take a charge against the house we can’t get the rogue tenant out of!!
What a coincidence eh!?
Makes my p I s s boil! 😤😤
British Gas......you’re a bunch of w a n k e r s.

The reason it was done was because all flavours of government failed to put investment back into any of these things which is why they were so run down by the 80’s.
I agree, they should be nationalised but only if it was written into law that the profits had to be reinvested and not allowed to be pulled out to fund vanity projects and supporting Wokeness and other stupidity.
There was so much unproductivity amongst nationalised industries, especially in the 70s, which neither Conservative or Labour governments dealt with that it was inevitable that this thistle had to be grasped. Unfortunately it took Thatcher to do so and we ended up going to the other extreme. Not only did these get sold off to already rich businessmen to make them even richer, but in the case of utilities, the governments failed the country by then allowing them to make further fortunes by selling them onto foreign companies.
It's ironic how people change their minds about things though isn't it? Wasn't that long ago when Corbyn was being rubbished by so many for raising the ghosts of nationalizing key industries and utilities again. Most of this was too many people being influenced by the Right Wing press of course but after 13 years of Conservative government maybe people are waking up?
Personally, I believe certain essential services and utilities should be nationalized. The trick, of course, is to learn from history and ensure sound business principles so that they are run efficiently and their management accountable.
Like I said, there’s no problem with State ownership but only if the money made gets put back into that service abs for this to be enshrined in law.
What’s the point of nationalising water only for the infrastructure to be ignored and a government to decide to bribe voters with huge tax cuts or increasing benefits by huge amounts to curry favour with another group?
Monopolies always have and always will be inefficient. They have no competition and absolutely no incentive.
It’s well renowned that inefficiencies costs more to consumers than profits.
