    Adidas furore.

Adidas have done an advert of a man wearing a woman’s swimsuit!

What on earth is wrong with these major brands?

Even back in the early 90’s when I worked for a world renowned brand it was often the “bright young things” in the advertising department who’d come up with ideas that the sales force would shoot down in flames before they saw the light of day with Joe public.

This is starting to be just like The Kings New Clothes…….most people at Adidas will have cringed and thought it was a terrible idea but are too frightened to speak up due to the fear of being called out as “anti trans” or the like.

Problem with marketing too many have no idea of life or the world around them. When I was a manager for New Product Development at TUI there were marketing girls in the early 20’s making decision on what families wanted and they had no kids of their own!

Same with the Virgin advert about inclusivity - why would you want to advertise a guy dressed up in a Virgin uniform caked in make up? Surely this is detrimental to the brand values! Nobody minds a gay person but really a guy covered in make up! So what next a male steward wearing a Virgin red skirt and heels?

    I shake my head!

Ha ha ha, you'd have had a meltdown if you'd seen one of the bar'men' serving us yesterday. 'He' was clearly looking for attention and a reaction to whatever pronoun said individual goes by.

Nobody batted an eyelid though and just let 'him/her/whatever' mince about the place to 'their' content. The beer tasted exactly the same whichever member of staff served us so we didn't really give a sh it 😊 .

Funny you say this 68. When I was on a managers conference with Horizon Holidays and they had a marketing television clip of two scenarios and it’s true.

    1. First clip in a bar - two guys finishing their drinks and an ugly barmaid said another drink guys - they supped up and said no thanks

    2. Second clip in the same bar with the same two guys. Stunning bar maid with blue eyes looking into the eyes of the two guys and said - another drink guys? They both said yes please eyeing her up.

Wouldn’t get away with this advert in this day and age. The advertising message was anyone will buy anything if they like the person who is selling it. Horizon Holidays used this for reps selling resort excursions. It worked!

I’ve probably got this totally wrong.

It’s a stroke of genius by Adidas, they’ve produced a bloke with plentiful “meat and veg” in a women’s swimsuit and for **** all spend they’ve got people talking about it.

‘Go woke go broke’ when Budweiser used a tranny to advertise their light beer their share price dropped like a stone, can see the same happening here.

Whether you like it or not, whatever item you are trying to promote, adverts using attractive people are the most successful. It’s just a fact of life!

Completely true Leicester! Good looking child models sell children’s product better! It’s wouldn’t work having an overweight child who is not good looking or cute selling let’s say Designer Clothes unless of course it’s size related!

Emirates have it right! Beautiful uniform and almost all their girls are good looking! Fact of life it enhances the brand values.

Virgin when they first started had good looking crew but now most of the girls stomachs are over their red skirts. I get inclusivity but the recent Virgin advert showing a male steward covered in make up was pathetic! Would they allow a male steward therefore to wear high heels or a skirt!

Slightly off topic Mick, but have you watched the film ‘Air’ on Prime? Something perhaps right up your street. Got a feeling you may have mentioned it as a suggestion already. Anyway we’ll worth a watch.
