    Barnsley-v-Blackburn Pre-Season Friendly ?

The last statement on the Official Website on 5th July 2023 was--

"Our pre season friendly with Rovers on Saturday 22nd July will now be played behind closed doors.

Originally set to be played at Oakwell, the game has now moved to an alternative venue due to logistical issues".

I realise this location has to be kept secret from fans but has the game been quietly dropped or is it going ahead ?

    Undisclosed 😂

I’ve no idea but I was shocked at the time of the announcement at the lack of detail within the statement,

    It's been an odd pre-season-

    AFC Fylde A ----cancelled

Guiseley A--reneged upon and cancelled leaving non league club without the anticipated financial boost
    .
Leeds H --existence of match kept secret until 1-9 scoreline came out on social media

Hull A --advertised game took place, 0-1 defeat

Blackburn H--today-- game and venue still shrouded in mystery because of "logistical issues"

Mansfield A--cancelled by us despite tickets being sold

Crewe H--still scheduled to be played as part of Open Day

I agree with your comments , it is all rather odd , obviously with the change of manager there has been some kind of change regarding pre season preparation but in all my years of watching I have never seen such turmoil , there may be a simple explanation for this but for sure we are not going to get one, it could be down to costs , policing or other factors but unless a clear explanation comes from the club then it is pure guess work & one thing for sure is there will be nothing coming from the club, communication seems to be a clear problem at the moment & whilst friendlies , testimonial matches etc mean nothing to me they do to some , lets hope whatever the reasons are they are ready for the big kick off when it matters .

Blackburn played their first team last night in a 0-0 draw at Fleetwood.

They are putting out a largely Academy side to play against us in a game which IS taking place somewhere.

Barnsley team: Roberts, Cotter, James, Lopata, Kitching, Cadden, Styles, Phillips, Kane, Shaw, Cole

It was played behind closed doors at Blackburn on one of their training pitches. The pre-season fixture list from weeks ago had the game at Oakwell.

Blackburn played nine of their U21 side as the first team played at Fleetwood the previous night. Clubs may now be wary that Barnsley will cancel at the last minute and so Blackburn maybe wanted to be sure their first team got some game time with a reliable fixture at Fleetwood.

Norwood 2 and Cole. Defence up against it facing the Blackburn U21's knocking in 4.

    Onto Mansfield---oh.
