    Sheffield Wednesday 1 Southampton 2

It would be rude not to mark the start of the new EFL Season 2023/24

Aye but how many fans were in attendance SB ?

That's what really matters over there apparently .

I watched the game & Southampton thoroughly deserved to win but the commentators drove me round the bend, they were so far up the saints backsides they needed pulleys & chains to get them out ,they were drooling over them to the point of being embarrassing , & to be honest they looked like Swansea did a couple of years ago , they were taking 20 to 30 passes to get to the half way line & a lot more to get further up the pitch , I was bored shi-less , it was tippy tappy football to the extreme & for all their passing dominance they hardly ever worked the keeper , Wednesday were like rabbits in the headlamps but are a big powerful bunch & will cause problems from set pieces, to which they eventually got an equaliser , I think they will be a lower mid table prospect at best with their current team but I feel sure they will survive.

I was in the company of a few Wendies the other week , went out for a few jars in Wombwell after work and there was a few knocking abart who my colleague knows .

Wombwell is wick with em for some reason , even that half wit Tango is knocking a Wombwell lass off and is a regular in the Town Hall .

I was pre warned what was coming by my colleague , the Wembley followings of course , what else would it have been ?

Animal as a former Union delegate can of course spin a few plates so I did a bit of creative accounting .

    And so it began .

" You do realise by percentage we actually took more fans than you did don't you " ?

    " we took 42k dingle "

" I'm aware of that dee dah but consider this "

" Your average attendance last season was 25,378 and you sold 42k tickets for Wembley " .

" Our average was 11,807 and we sold 24k .
    that's around a 120% increase " .

" Your increase at Wembley was only 65% "

" So actually we took double the amount to Wembley than you did " .

" in real terms of course because the figures I've used are the only real measurement you can credibly use given almost everything in life is measured in percentages , pay increase , mortgage rates , savings , unemployment figures etc etc " .

    " But but but " !!!!!

    Game over .

A few things to add to this thread.

Collins says it’s good to see that Barnsley is a one club town.
    NO IT ISN’T !!!
Only got to go to places like Wombwell to see that it isn’t.
Only the diehards in Barnsley support Barnsley.
The rest of the town doesn’t.
And that is all the fault of Barnsley Football Club - because Barnsley is a big football supporting town - the support is there to be had.

    As for Southampton.
    They played exactly like Swansea.
Watching that I was bored to the level of blowing pieces of paper off the end of mi nose.
That style of play is ingrained within the culture of Swansea.
So Duff has a reyt b@stard job on his hands trying to alter that lot.

Some Wendy fans watching their rag bag of a team against Southampton must have thought - Barnsley would have given Southampton a better game.
Wendy were woefully - pub team - silent crowd.
