Aye Jack, us mere mortals look on and sympathise greatly with your predicament.
Having spent 21 years in the building trade, I feel as fresh as a daisy. No pain at all in my back, legs, hips, shoulders or muscles.....

Jack Shepherd speaks to the Barnsley FC Media (Official Site)
"When you automatically think of a footballer you just think, "Oh it's the high life", but it's a lot harder than what you think. It's a lot tougher on the legs, there's more fatigue.
Some days you're not doing as much but it's a lot tougher than working 9 to 5, Monday to Friday. It's taking some adjusting but hopefully I am getting there."
The wages may be crap Jack--£2.5K a week ? £130K a year ?--but i hadn't realised it was so tough as well.
Ex coal miners reading that would have a wry smile.

Having spent 17 years working underground I understand what yer saying - but what Jack is probably doing is describing the work he is doing compared to the work that others in his age group are doing.
Which is relatively much easier to what we had to do.
PS - when are we going to see a Barnsley v Blackpool thread ???
I don’t want to upset the delicate apple cart by starting one myself 😄
Their zombie heads are tucked away engrossed in their mobile phones on tik tok, Facebook, twitter or whatever shyte entertains them. Too easily offended too. Dunt know the born aif on em. We live in an ever changing society and there's more minuses than plusses in my opinion. I'd hate to see where we are in 30 years time.
That’s what I was thinking looking at the ‘Barnsley in Colour’ thread.
Biggest improvements in my life;
Medicine
Air transport / travel
Computers / communication
Money is more easily earned
More education and job opportunities
But are we happier ???
Are we hell !!!
Most people have lost their manners and are just miserable.
I must emphasise that I was alluding to the mentality aspect of things in 30 years time. The improvements that you've highlighted have certainly helped improve all our lives in terms of health care and convenience. Unfortunately it's had a detrimental effect in other aspects of life. All government induced I'm my opinion. I think the education department hand out good grades willy nilly these days which gives a false impression of where we're at as a nation. Psychologically, it gives young uns a mentality where they think things in life are attainable with the minimum of effort.
To sum it up, we are advancing hugely in terms of technology but the mentality has become lazy because of it.
It’s a high pressure environment that they operate in for sure
Physically n mentally challenging I don’t doubt
Even playing for Barnsley still is quite lucrative compared with lower levels
Many people play as a hobby for no financial gain, maybe the opposite
So to be paid very well relatively in the current climate for doing a job which is an enjoyable privilege is to be cherished imo
Thatcher and Blair changed this country and in many aspects not for the better .
Thatcher decimated our industries and sold off all our utilities , Blair changed this country culturally .
If I was 20 years old I'd be out of this country and I wouldn't be coming back .
The more time I spend in Spain which isn't without problems the more I realise what an expensive shyte hole this country has become , everything is feckin broken here .
You couldn't pay me to vote Tory or Labour at the next election .
Correct. Waste o snap and bacca lot on em(Dennis Skinner aside) Most voters are so naive they can be roped in and switch allegiances at the click of a finger as we've seen with the 'get Brexit done' campaign by Boris. This is a reflection on not only how bad the politicians have been since the thatcher era, but also the mentality of the British people.
Apologies for drifting off topic but the original post by SB got me thinking![]()
