That looks like a very nice instrument. I’ve not played the Fender but I do have a Gretsch Parlour guitar, I bought it a year ago second hand. It has heavier strings than my regular acoustic and for some reason took me a while to get used to it but it has a nice tone. It came with a hard case and is convenient for taking away with me if I think that I will have the time to play. I don’t use it much at home but as I said, the smaller size makes it ideal for taking to my daughter’s if I am staying there for a few days and I recently took it with me on a short break in Herefordshire.

I don’t know how the Gretsch compares with the Fender on price; mine is the ‘Jim Dandy’ model, maybe worth checking out?

    Hi Soulman
Unless you especially want a hybrid guitar, a smaller acoustic with narrower neck may be easier for you. I looked up the Jim Dandy guitar that Ketts has and that is about £180 new and looks a nice guitar. The two travel guitars Ive looked at in the past are the Taylor GS mini (about £800) and the East Coast mkoa mini (£130). Both have the option of fitted pick up and there are demos and reviews in youtube. The Taylor is the better of the two but the East Coast sounds nice and looks very good value. I found the Taylor on Gear4music and the East Coast on Andertons.

There is quite a good review of the Fender Highwayman on the Anderton site.

Tbh, with a birthday and Christmas coming up you've now got me seriously thinking about it myself ! I keep looking at the East Coast one but I think our respective wives are of the same opinion!

The 10th Dec is same as one of our sons. As for mine, I share a regal birthday with our monarch -14th Nov. I think that the better half and kids will be treating me to a MIDI keyboard which I've been wanting for a while as it'll make recording orchestration samples a lot easier for me. Programming drums on Ableton may be beyond me but at least I've figured that bit out!

The question is, are you going to be brave enough to broach the subject with your better half about getting another guitar for either of the up-coming celebrations? 😀

I think she would say treat yourself , but I love treating other people but find it hard to spend on myself .
