    VAR again

Chelski v Brighton, not a penalty in the century or the next and only because VAR "involved" themselves was it awarded. In the PL and anywhere else in the UK LEAGUES IT SHOULD BE WITHDRAWN.

Wouldn’t stop the decision at the end of the City game - play on - oh no let me blow my whistle with the player through on goal.

That was a very strange one as it did seem as if Hooper had clearly signaled play on. I can only assume that he must’ve subsequently (or even inadvertently?) blown his whistle before the play properly developed, which stops the game whatever is going on at the time. That said, it’s not as if Haaland didn’t miss an open goal in the first half. Still…

The restart in the Chelsea v Brighton game was also a bit counterintuitive. Obviously a penalty had been given by the referee on the field, but VAR indicated that (rightly) it was not a penalty. Logic would suggest Brighton should’ve at least got a corner instead, but it was VAR that overturned the onfield penalty so, given that the ball last touched a Chelsea player, the “correct” restart is an uncontested dropped ball to Chelsea. Stupid, but correct.

Don’t get me started on uncontested dropped balls.

    Just don’t.

So Orgs, what do you think about the new drop ball rules?

    🙃

Was always a great opportunity to go over the top of the ball in hotly contested games that were getting a little feisty where you needed to extract revenge back when full contact was allowed.

Hooper is just such an awful ref. He seems to influence every game he officiates in a negative way.

I have no idea what the prem pays these clowns. Even the local mens league games here in Indy pay a $100 a game. With the money flowing through the prem it would seem they'd get paid thousands and thousands. It's really hard to believe how poor they are.

The other problem the FA seems to have is that they don't punish or eliminate the poor refs. Some of the refs at Lg 1 or Championship seem to have a lot better concept of what their role is in the game than the prem officials.

VAR also reinforces mediocrity as there is always someone else that can overrule them if they screw up. When an advantage situation occurs they lose the plot since they are used to someone else coming in and saving them.

    It's really sad for football.
