He must have an amazing agent. Wasn’t he some kind of coach at Chelsea for a period?

I remember there being a fair amount of hype when he signed, but he only made 7 league apps and we lost 5 of them, winning 1. Arguably one of the club's biggest flops up to that point, rivalling Ricky Green and Stuart Rimmer.

Was it his debut(Wolves at home in the league) where he was asked to play left full back, but after 15 minutes he thought he was the right winger. He was no tactical genius back then that’s for sure

I seem to remember Steve Cherry reacting with astonishment to Michael Emenalo's positional sense, or lack of it.

Clearly he's become much more adept at getting into the right positions since retiring!

Didn’t he come with the reputation that he’d just marked Maradona at the World Cup?

Flop yes. Wasn’t very good at anything.

Obviously his status as a Nigeria international was the main selling point when he arrived, but even before the season started, people were pointing out that the Nigerian team of the time were noted for their attacking talent, not their defending. He just wasn't good enough for the level we were playing.

I always say there are a lot of rose-tinted spectacles amongst certain Notts fans looking back at Mick Walker's time in charge. Emenalo's signing, as with Colin Hoyle, typified a disastrous 1994/95 where the players/squad began the season unfit, under-motivated and under prepared. They never recovered. Derek Pavis did Mick Walker a huge favour by sacking him so early in the season, because it diverted attention away from Walker's culpability. A lot of people only remember Russell Slade, Howard Kendall and the chaos that followed, much like Neal Ardley took much of the blame for Kevin Nolan's failings years later. Failure starts in the summer.

As well as Colin Hoyle and Michael Emenalo, Walker brought in Paul Reece, Martin Kuhl and Nigel Jemson between that summer and being sacked on 14th September. Disastrous.
The last youth player he brought into the 1st team earlier that year was Paul Sherlock, who would be one of the more forgettable home grown players of the era - despite him starting on Charlie Palmer Day.

Can't argue with Walker's home league record though, considering it was tier 2.....
