Millers submit squad list to EFL

The club has now submitted its squad list to the EFL upon the closure of the Summer Transfer Window as per regulations.

Steve Evans has finalised the following list of senior players who will be available for selection between now and when the January Transfer Window opens, while the club’s youngsters will also be permitted to step up into first team action as and when called upon.

The Millers were required to name a Club Developed Player in order to qualify for the full quota of seven substitutes each week in Sky Bet League One with Academy Scholar Harry Tchekwa among those submitted to fulfil that quota.

In the event that the Club Developed Player departs the club or goes out on loan, the Millers would no longer be eligible to name the full seven substitutes.

The EFL regulations permit clubs in Sky Bet League One to name 22 senior outfield players with goalkeepers not counting towards the tally.

Players under the age of 21 are also excluded from that number, other than in the instance of Harry Tchekwa whose inclusion on the squad list guarantees the Millers seven substitutes each week and therefore constitutes one of the 22 named players, despite being below the above specified age.

Have to say that I've not seen or heard of Harry Tchekwa before or what position he plays. Wonder if gru/RU66 takes him under his wing as the new fledgling? ........only joking pal

The list with asterisks showing players who don't count towards the 22 man tally:

    1. Cameron Dawson*

    2. Joe Rafferty

    3. Cohen Bramall

    4. Liam Kelly

    5. Sean Raggett

    6. Reece James

    7. Joe Powell

    8. Sam Nombe

    9. Jonson Clarke-Harris

    10. Jordan Hugill

    11. Andre Green

    12. Mallik Wilks

    14. Alex MacDonald

    16. Zak Jules

    17. Shaun McWilliams

    19. Detlef Esapa Osong*

    20. Dillon Phillips*

    21. Joseph Hungbo

    22. Hakeem Odoffin

    23. Jack Holmes

    24. Cameron Humphreys

    27. Christ Tiehi

    30. Jamie McCart

    35. Ben Hatton*

    36. Harry Tchekwa

Most if not all of the players in our U18s meet the criteria of club developed players, it is also worth noting that a player can be both a Home Grown player and a Club Developed player if they meet both sets of criteria.

We have THREE right FBs in our under 18 squad one of which has played with the full team squad in a pre-season friendly

So why oh why would we select a forward and say "Tchekwa’s inclusion is cosmetic and he won't be in first-team contention this term." when we could have had a lad named that could if really required played RB. It is a risk that wasn't required to take, no matter how small the risk is, it is a greater risk than any other position as we stand today, our only RB is still injured and there are only players that can play there if required, in other words the cover is to play a player out of their first choice and natural position.

Derbymiller. Any of our under 18 home grown players can play for us, they do not have to be named in the 22, we just have to name one in the 22 to have 7 subs. The rules are about as clear as mud.

Does that mean the young un named HAS to be on our bench or is just being named as part of the squad enough?
Remember McGuckin being on our bench last season and hardly getting on which must have irked a bit with who was in our side last year

No he doesn’t have to be on the bench, just part of the squad. The reason it has to be somebody so young is that they can’t be loaned out or else we’d lose that last place on the bench. There’s a good chance the likes of Hull, Hatton, McGuckin etc will leave on loan.

Hull & McGuckin very rarely get a mention so a chance is out of the question with SE.
